Skip DeWitt Stands Behind Sheriff Barry Janney

In a respectfull letter to his supporters, Robert J. "Skip" DeWitt stands behind Sheriff Janney and encourages his supporters to ignore the lies. Stating that the county is in good hands, DeWitt recognized it was a move that would cost him support from the democrat party in the future. Showing his concern for the county is more important than his popularity amongst the democrats. Very courageous and deserving of a thumbs up!

Good for you Skip! It take a real man to stand up for what's right even when it's not popular. We need to re-elect Sherriff Janney in 13 more days.

FINALLY! A politician willing to do what is right...INSTEAD OF WHAT IS EXPECTED!

I have a great deal of respect for someone that won't disrespect the current Sheriff, was curteous enough to inform the current Sheriff of his intention to run, and now stands behind the current Sheriff as the better choice for Cecil County. At the same time, respecting his party affiliation enough to explain why he chooses to support the opposing party.

I would like to tell Skip Dewitt that he is the man in 2014! I will NEVER forget the impact you have just made on our County politics! Although your father was a staunch Democrat, he would be proud to know that you care enough about our safety to cross that barrier! I would like to commend the Democrat party for providing ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF CECIL COUNTY with a great voice like Skip Dewitt. I see this as UNITY, a bridge to join the two parties together! Thank you Skip Dewitt!

Listen, Dewitt ran AGAINST Sutton in the first place. He was sick and tired of the lies, innuendo, deceit, and bullying by Sutton and his supporters. Kudos to Dewitt for having the guts to do the right thing!

Dewitt should be very proud of what he did! I am sure hid dad is looking down on him and smiling. I was always raised to vote for the best man....not whether you are a republican or democrat. And that is something I have always done since I have been able to vote. Growing up my parents voted for Skips dad...because he was the best candidate. And now We need to follow skips advice and vote for Janney for sheriff! If he runs in 2014 he will have my vote...

Nice job Dewitt! We have all heard the accusations by Sutton and his thugs that you ran to help Sheriff Janney so I was pleased to read your ad in the paper! I can tell from the other forums that it doesn't matter what you say or put in writing, Sutton and Co. will continue to tell people lies.

I agree with everyone else here and I will add...YOU ARE NOT LIKE THE OTHER POLITICIANS! I appreciate your willingness to support the better person, not the party.

I just watched the Utube video for the first time.
And after watching it, I came away with the feeling that Chris Sutton does not mind wallowing in the mud to get political points. This video is disgraceful. I especially liked the background music. It appears to me that Sheriff Janney once backed the collective bargaining issue and then apparently changed his mind. So? It happens. Chris Sutton, you need to get some morales and a conscience. Negative campaigns,dirty politics, and scare tactics are not appreciated by the electorate.

Negative campaigns are only inefficient if the are not truly factual. Too bad for Janney, but that video is pretty factual. I as part of the electorate, enjoyed the video.

Secondly, Skip Dewitt didn't do what was right, he did what was expected. He is buddy buddy with Captain Ray Evans, who is tight with, and appointed by Barry Janny. Do you really think Skip would go against his friends?

Other than bearing the same last name as his father, Skip Dewitt does not exude any leadership qualities that would lead me to believe he could manage a squad of deputies, let alone the entire agency. Cecil County politics is such a joke.

Bingo. It's only mudslinging if it's false. Telling the truth is not mudslinging or scare tactics.

Is there any doubt that "I do believe" is Skip's girlfriend, Christine Davis? If Skip has any intentions on winning Sheriff in 2014, he better switch parties. His letter to the Cecil Whig just confirmed everyones suspicion that a deal was struck months ago between Skip and Barry Janney. A dedicated member of a political party does not come out and openly support someone from another party. I hope whatever Janney promised Skip was worth ending his political career.

I love when someone tries to guess who a writer is and they are so off. I makes me feel warm and fuzzy that you care enough and my post got to you. "Come on" or is that "Sutton"? You would never make it as a detective but I guess you already know that.

Back to the election topic "Sutton"... You were a little ignorant on Saturday to play politics at a youth sporting event. Do you have any cooth? There are barriers and you continue to cross them. Your lack of respect for authority and children makes a huge statement about your morales and work ethic. You should take a lesson from Sheriff Janney!

There is nothing wrong with crossing party lines to vote for the best candidate. In fact, most of the deputies voting for Sutton are registered democrats. The difference is that when you RUN for office, you do not later come out and support the other party's candidate. This does two things; it casts you in a bad light by your political party and makes you look like a sore loser. Dewitt constantly states that Sutton attacked his family. I have yet to see any advertisement or letter to the editor where Sutton did any such thing. If Dewitt is referring to the anonymous postings on topix, then he is really reaching.

I know Skip and know of many things he has done that does not fit the definition of a "good person". If Skip really thought Janney was doing such a good job, why did he run. The excuse that he wanted a better choice for the democratic candidate is garbage. When you run for office, you don't run to win your party's nomination, you run to win the office. It is apparent that Dewitt had no intentions to win the office of Sheriff. Why would you run for office when you supposedly believe that the incumbent is doing such a good job. This makes no sense!!
