What has happened to all OUR tax money over the last 25 years? What has Keith McCall been doing with it? In his tenure not one bridge has been upgraded. He was the head of transportation, you think he would have had some pull there. Now he is the majority whip. You know he doesn't even pay for his own car, car insurance or gas so you know he isn't feeling the gas crunch. So, much for the high gas tax we are paying in this state for the up keep of roads and bridges. Keith sends all our money to Philadelphia. It is time for a change this Novemeber.

Hey,Thanks Taxman:
Do not forget the OTHER bridge that is directly to the East of the Covered Bridge...that one needs replacement also...it makes no sense to fix the one without fixing the other! As far as Keith not feeling the gas crunch; just look at your township roadmaster supervisor doing the same thing with the township's Red Pickup truck reported being over at McDonald's in Walnutport for lunch. And if you would ever become elected you would probably do the same thing! D.H.

I think I'll be voting for Keith again come fall. Give the choice between him and Mr. Heffley there is simply no question. Keith McCall has years of experience and is now in one of the highest positions of power in the state legislature. He has the ability to accomplish things for this are that would be completely ignored if they were proposed by Mr. Heffley.
Also, Mr. Heffley's entire campaign is based on stopping the tolls for route 80. Why? Because he works for a trucking company and they will be the hardest hit by the tolls. Face it, the money brought in from those tolls will allow for better maintenance of the roads, exactly what you claim to be looking for. |

This state seems to have money to build baseball parks but, doesn't have money for things that are important. The polititions in this state are crooked!

Carbon County is very hungry for tourist’s dollars. A covered bridge, especially one you can drive on, is a great tourist attraction to many people. If there was never a bridge over the Buckwha Creek and someone proposed building one, and a covered bridge at that, for $40,000 the commissioners would jump at that opportunity. Not to mention that we’re repairing 128 years of local history.
Maybe the county is broke because of the Packerton Yards fiasco. |

Fix the bridge, why are you pi$$ing and moaning about a super that goes for lunch driving the township vehicle?? It is his right to do that since he is the boss and your tax money is feeding that pick up so shut the F up or run for the post...Mr Heffly is a cigar toting goofy republican that loves BUSH, well anyone that love that jerk off is one himself.. Yes he recruits drivers for a trucking company as yes his company uses rt 80 a lot. I say make it a toll road so it gets fixed properly, create more jobs for tolltakers, maintence, and should have their own police to nail these idiots that speed, fine the heck out of them and create cash flow so we can build another football stadium or baseball stadium so Mr Heffly can have a box suite with a cigar somking facility....

Spoken like a true liberal. You are missing the big point. Our county is falling apart all around us and unfortunately, the card board checks that ever find there way to the lower end of the township take years to cash. The residents of this county need to start looking under the bridges. It is a very scary sight.
As far as the government vehicle. It is being funded through taxpayers dollars!!! MY DOLLARS!! Which unlike many come from my employer not government funded handout programs.

I believe you misunderstand. The money will not fix the roads here, the money will be sent to Phili because they residents there do not want to have to pay for their own transportation.

From http://www.paturnpike.com/I80/Act44/act44.asp... "The anticipated revenue generated from Act 44 satisfies 95% of the needed funding identified in the Governor’s Transportation Funding and Reform Commission Report (November 2006). A majority of this funding will be used statewide to repair roads and bridges. Toll money collected on I-80 will be used to reconstruct and improve I-80 and to pay the lease payments in accordance with the PTC/PennDOT Lease Agreement. PennDOT’s federal funding compliment will remain the same, so the on average $80 million per year currently being spent on I-80 will be available for use on other interstates in the Commonwealth. In addition, all of the state’s rural and urban public transit agencies will now receive increased, stable, and performance-driven funding annually as a result of funding generated through monetization of bonds based on Mainline Turnpike toll increases. I-80 toll money will not be used for transit as specified in the PTC/PennDOT Lease Agreement." So I believe you are the one who is mistaken. If you are correct, then the distribution of the funding is the problem, not the fact the I-80 is being tolled. Rather than trying to stop the tolls, address the distribution issue. |

Money borrowed from bonds that the next generations will have to pay back. This is why our country is in such financial problems. I think this entire country needs an overhaul of elected officials. Everyone blames the president for everything. There are a lot of elected officials between us and the president. It is sad that so few people really think that by a change of the guard in the White House will turn everything around. It will take much more than that. I think they should have term limits for every elected position. These are my thoughts. I hope others will wake up one day and pay attention.

I think you are mistaken. What happened to all the casino money that was going to lower our property taxes. Don't believe the rhetoric out of Harrisburg. They will say one thing to get something to pass then do what they want. Where is the property tax reform?? |
|
I never believed the casinos would generate enough revenue to have a huge impact there. We MAY see more impact as more casinos are added but I'm not holding my breath. I do support this plan as I believe it will generate enough revenue to be worth the changes. Again, I believe this is a valid plan to generate funds that are needed to maintain the state road system. If you have a better plan, run for office and let the public decide if they agree with you or at the very least contact your representatives and suggest it. |

I have a steady job that I would not give up for a 2 year stint then to spend one year trying to do something and the other year for campaigning for reelection. That is what happens with these positions or there are not enough reformers to change things. There is enough money coming in from taxes and gas taxes to fund the roads and brides. They need to stop spending it foolishly on stadiums, Mass Transit in Philly (raise the fares), etc. Look at how much money has been taken from the transportation fund and not used on the roads and bridges. I am against tolling I-80 as you will see I-81 & I-78 next. You will not see I-95, because the Democrats rely on the Philly & Suburbs for their main votes to win elections. Look at the past history of votes. The people in the outer parts of the state wind up paying the bill for the inferstructure in the cities while ours deteriorates. Please tell me why I should vote for Keith.

I am going to Mt. Airy tomorrow night, and I will generate a few bucks towards the township up there...Bring in the casinos, Walmarts, K-marts, Big lots, Little Lots, Ollie's Army, good stuff cheap, put them next to each other in one big mall ,and you will have tax money revenue to fix the bridges!!!!

Listen to all this political rhetoric being spewed out. Do you mean to tell me that you actually believe everything you read coming from the bloated bureaucracy of Pennsylvania? Come on. You can't be that naive. Either that, or you're a part of the machine yourself....
Go right ahead. Just let them keep taking money from you little by little. Let them tax your gas, your tolls, your food, your car, your house, your income, and your inheritance. Pretty soon, all you will have left is change. Hey wait a minute......change? Obama wants change. Well, I guess he'll take that from you and you'll be left with nothing.....

Heffly and Obamma, now there is a good ticket to vote on..
|
|
And I'll ask the same thing of you as I did above, what is YOUR plan to fix the problems you mention? Criticism is easy, coming up with workable solutions, not so much. Maybe you have something in mind. If you do, share it with us all, suggest it to your representatives, or run for the office yourself. |
|
Please tell me why I should vote for McCall? |
|
Because McCall brings hundreds of thousands of dollars to Mr. Heffley's township to build a Ball/Sports field which helps Palmerton Area School Dist. justify selling their park/land to Rite Aid. Opps...maybe those Grands and tax dollars should fix the Covered bridge instead...now there is a novel idea. Roads and bridges instead of grass and fields. Brilliant! |
|
|
You mean he brings us OUR money that he over taxed us. He makes it look like he is helping us with OUR money. If he let the School District have their own money they could budget to handle their own fields. A legislator makes laws, not steal our money. It seems he has forgotten that. If he wouldn't give all the transportation money to Philadelphia Mass Transit he could pay for the roads and bridges in Mr. Heffley's area. Research all the money that has be taken from the Transportation budget and where he gave it too.
