Camden Co. jail hardly homey

Full story: CourierPostOnline

Close your eyes, plug your ears, and it feels almost like a pool house. The humidity and the pungent smell of chlorine are that potent inside the Camden County Correctional Facility .

1. Keep Riverfront prison.(it is tucked away out of the center of the city)
2. Allow the city to purchase it for $1.00.
3. Relocate all Canden County inmates to Riverfront.
4. Tear down Camden County Jail and build up the Center City area where people and the city will actually benefit from it.

1. Riverfront is on prime water-front property. Redeveloping the property to pay taxes to both the city , the county and the state is far more economically advantageous to Camden than is the relocation of a jail simply to retain the corrections officers who work there. Look at the aquarium, Tweeter Center, DRPA Building, the U.S.S. New Jersey, Victors......
2. The city does not own the County jail. The County does. Purchasing the prison merely re-allocates the tax burden to run that facility- the County tax payers carry that burden- not the City.In fact, the County taxpayers cover the bulk of the city's municipal taxes, along with the state subsidary. Do you really think the City has the ability to actually run a jail????? They can't even balance a budget...
3. Relocating County inmates does absolutely nothing in terms of saving taxpayer dollars. It merely moves the problem.
4. While tearing down the CCCF would indeed be benficial to the City, moving the inmates to a location that is primed and ready for development is not a feasible solution. It merely moves the tax-eating, statutorliy mandated jail to a far less suitable location. The problems would remain.

Riverfront prison was actually build to bring money into Camden. It is the second newest prison in the state. It would be a waste of tax payers money to tear down a fairly new prison that tax payers paid to build.
Prime waterfront property in CAMDEN, who are you kidding,

Keep the jails where most of the crime occurs. In one of the most dangerous cities in the US.

Or close Riverfront, thinking the city will auction off the land and make big bucks, when in reality as soon as the prison closes both Rutgers and Rowen Universities will claim eminent domain and take over the land.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Gemini

Beware of taking on too much because it will be an effort to get through it all. You might even have to give up the unequal struggle, which won't do much for your ego or your reputation. Be especially careful about this if you're at work because a certain person may try to take advantage of what they see as your weakness or failure to deliver the goods.
