1 Teachers are not miracle workers. If some punk kid is more interested in partying, getting high, getting knocked up, etc… then what the hell is the teacher supposed to do. It sounds like it is not the Dad’s fault either. The blame for the teen’s failure lays squarely on the teen herself. Natural selection is not dead. Her actions and/or inactions will dictate how her future plays out. I foresee continued failure for her. |

Been there, done that. That was the first step. One kid just got used to it. Another one just would follow the groundings for a while, then just not come home from school. The other two run to the exes house where they will never follow the groundings. |

Done. Still working on the other two. Tired of the battle. |
yeah she probably needs a good one too, except the way our government runs now a days if you do that you end up in jail for child abuse. I hate to say it folks our society is going down the toilet. THANK YOU BABY BOOMERS |

Ya know its a shame that you didn't do better in your life and that you feel its such a great thing to use other peoples money for your life because its the best you can do. And seriously either you had the kids or you didn't which one is it. Hopefully they won't fall into your trap. Good luck with that because evntually all that welfare crap will end and gee you might have to work for a living. Better start studying for your GED now. |

There is a great deal of missing information in this article. What was the initial charge brought up against the father? There's no mention of this. They talk about past truency of the child, but that doesn't lead to a charge against the father.
So it's hard to really judge this ruling. Now I'm personally against the courts making up laws. I constantly speak out against them and superceding their constitutional authority. But this one simply lacks the information required to make a judgement. |
Have you tried a 'reward' program? For both you and them... Take the bedroom door off. Take away an allowance. If they run to your ex, then let them be rude and disrespectful to her. She'll get tired of it and you two can nicely work out a solution. |

2 The underlying current is the judge could not put the girl in jail for failing the test, failing a test is not a jailable offense just as failing high school is not a jailable offense. Instead, the judge is reaching for a reason to get the desired effect. Since he cannot put her in jail, he put the dad in jail. The real issue here is do we want judges to have the power to do this? Do we want kids to have the power to fail a test and get their parents placed in jail? Parental responsibility is one thing but what of the child's responsibility or the judges responsibility towards justice. Further, his punishment is pushing the goal further away. If her dad is in jail, who is going to pay the rent, the bills, or anything else? How is she going to eat or take care of her 1.5 yr old child? Can she study and pass a test while having to work (and somehow pay for childcare). Even worse, what if she is actually just not that bright and can't pass even with help? Should she or the dad be punished for that? This entire judgment is a perversion of freedom and justice. |

Wait a minute. Is'nt Brittany "almost 19" and a mother of a 18 month old? I think that puts her in the status of an adult. If she commited a crime her father or no one else would be held accountible. Where where the "do-gooders" 10 years ago?

1 Try taking away what they love most, such as the computer, or the cell phones, of tv, or sports, or the car. They might listen than. GOOD LUCK! |
