PPL hearing in Slate Belt: Just do it

The last thing PPL needs this summer is another problem. Call it customer relations or public relations, the company has been in people's crosshairs over proposed rate hikes, its profits and compensation for ...

Corporate profits, above all else, are what drives PPL. Nothing else matters. Not being a responsible citizen. Not ethics. Not contributing to the community. Nothing. With the coming rate hikes they will inflict serious hardship upon the very people who have supported them for decades, and they do not care because it means greater profit.

You use electricity, don't you? Where do you think it comes from, and how it gets there.
Try batteries. I like PPL, it's the best power company in the country. You should be counting your blessings.
Alternative: use batteries.

rofl - Gary, Gary, Gary - I love that argument.

Just because we all use electricity doesn't mean that PPL has the right to do whatever they want. If you had $300 million to blow, would you take months to decide what to do with it or blow it all without thinking over a couple weeks? Even in their FERC filing, they state this schedule is aggressive.

They are not doing an EPA study, I wonder what else they aren't doing?

I do use electricity, but even my 3200 sq. ft. house comes up with using less power than the average home on PPL's billing website. If I'm being responsible with my energy, shouldn't we hold PPL to the same standards?

Sorry, you're right. I should just shut up and be thankful that I have electricity and the fact that they're greedy bastards should be acceptable as long as I get electricity. Right? How much stock do you own? Or do you just accept corporate greed as "the american way"?

My parents (depression semi-survivors) already are, walk around with flashlights at night, as they spend half their income on gas now as the doctors need bloodwork done a great deal, follow-up appointments and all that. I use candles myself, have always liked them. When discussing PPL and their customers one needs to consider there are any number of people who might he having a hard time of it, so the 'use batteries' comes off a bit like "let them eat cake".
With that said, I can see the children of the future looking at old pictures...."Mommy, Daddy....what are those poles for????"

"Those were used before electricity was transfered underground" :)

We are a Capitalistic society and are governed by the laws of supply and demand. If there is a great demand for a product or service (in this case electricity) and the supply is limited ,the price increases.
If the costs of creating the product increases the costs of the product also increases, for example the increased cost of fossil fuels.
The option is for the consumer to use less therefore decreasing the demand. With more available the cost would come down.
Power companies also have other problems. They have to wind up their generators for peak demand. It takes days to do this and they can't just shut them down when demand lessens, as over night, holidays and weekends. their expenses are high when demand is low, there is no way of storing unused electrical potential so the generating effort is wasted.
Finally, PPL is not a social welfare agency, they need to be paid for their product. You can pay more than your statement amount and PPL will apply the excess to needy customers.
Contact your local Democratic party representative and tell them to force Nancy Palosi and Harry Reid to bring those bills languishing in congress to allow drilling in Anwar and the Gulf Of Mexico. This will also reduce the cost of energy.
As far as being a shareholder is concerned if you have a 401K plan, a retirement plan or any investments at all,you probably own PPL stock. It's the best utility stock in the country.
