So because she cried out loud (most likely fearing going to prison), she was declared not malicious. However, she was drunk when behind the wheel, it took someone's life away. I'm sure that affected everyone connected to David Price. And yet, she gets the mandatory minimum? That's BS!

Wow. I don't know how I would feel if I was the victims family. The whole situation is terrible. I couldn't imagine getting into an accident and killing someone. I'm not sure I could live with myself. I pray for both families. This is tough on both I'm sure.

Great, so she kills someone and will probably be out in 18 months. Meanwhile her victim is dead. Maybe if there were stricter consequences for drunk driving, people would think twice before getting behind the wheel. Handing out sentences like this sends a horrible message to society. How about the fact that not only was she drunk, but she was also speeding and ran a red light? She showed complete and total disregard for anyone and everyone on the road, and should NOT get off with a slap on the wrist.

A tragedy for both families. My heart goes out to the Price family loosing such a young man so senselessly. As a mother and wife, this is a pain I can't imagine.
The pain that Mrs. Simkanin's daughters will bear is heartbreaking. Would not 6 months in jail, house arrest and extensive community service been the better choice? This would then not "punish" the children who are totally innocent. We have all learned, from this horrible accident. Hopefully, eventually, everyone involved will find some peace.

You need to throw the book at these people. It's the only way they'll learn. To take another person's life and get off scott free. It sets a precident. If you want to kill somebody, drink a whole lot, get behind the wheel and just crash into them. As long as there is no clear connection between the two, you are free in a year or less.

How is a 3 year sentence "scott free"?

We need some scientist to duplicate the "Helgrimite Method" from the twilight zone. In the episode, doctor's use what is called a Helgimite worm which lies dorment in your body. For some reason the worm thrives on alcohol, so when the person drinks, the worm becomes engorged and starts to grow. The only way to stop it and the excruciating pain is to stop drinking and allow it to become dorment again. Or better yet, you tell the murderer, you have a choice, prison or aversion therapy. Then you make them drink and immediately induce vomiting using syrup of ipecac. You repeat this process until the thought of drinking makes them want to throw up. Do this for about a month and then send them home.

I wouldn't envy the family of the victim who she killed!! When anyone is killed at the hands of another, other than by self defense, than the sentence should be one that is SWIFT as well as very CLEAR!!! People who DUI obviously, have no regard for anyone, just like using a loaded gun on innocent people!!

it's really a shame that people chose to drink and drive...an accident is an accident when you are not drinking, but drunk is drunk and you deserve jail time for killing someone.

Because she won't serve all three years, maybe half of that in a minimum security facility. Not quite worth a life wouldn't you agree?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure a minimum sentence is a minimum sentence that she must serve - so 3 years, and nowhere does it say minimum security.

I don't think the tearful apology had anything to do with her being declared not malicious. She pled guilty and will serve time. I don't think any amount of time served will ever be enough for taking a life.
