Nockamixon Twp. tries to dim the lights

Nockamixon Township's reputation of being the darkest place in upper Bucks County got darker Tuesday night when the township supervisors moved a step closer to passing a law restricting outdoor lighting.

I live in the area and love that it is so black outside. One of the reasons why I moved out this way 18 years ago.
When I drive past these Mcmansions that have 4 to 6 lights lit around the house, I wonder "why?"
I could see if u were going out and wished brightness when you returned but what a waste of power not to mention we have to see all those nasty homes.
If you want bright nights, move to the city
good jobs towhsip superviors :) Thank u for maintaining the rural feel.

Yes, lets not become another New Hope, Newtown or Doylestown. I cant understand why all those lites have to be on 24/7 and oil is so expensive.

How is Nockamixon going to enforce this with no police force? State police can't enforce local ordinances.

I am guessing that like in condo communites or other neighborhoods that have "rules", it will be if a complaint to the towship is made.
While i agree that it is tough to enforce, it is a good step to keep the area beautiful at night AND save on power..

some people are saying it is a matter of being transported back in time, it isnt. It is a matter of preserving an area's intergrity. You have it in newer Mcdevelopments. There are rules and policies (condo boards) that are in place to preserve the supposed character of the Mcdevelopment. Why not have that for a town? There are historic boards like in Carversville, Newtown, etc. You have to seek permission of your house color and so on.
Lighting is the same, I love to see the stars and dont understand why Mcmansions have to have lights lit all over the exterior. I dont want to see them in the daylight not along at night. If you want bright lights, move to the city or ghetto..

Ever think that maybe some lighting in the store populated areas in not such a bad idea.. beign your across 611 and all. THINK hard and wise no cops.. ok

so who is to say all the rubbish will not try to rob you all while you sleep .. now that they know the lighting has been reduced...

where are you people living... the 1920's... we all saw how justice was prevailed then.. they never did catch Jesse James or the many criminals that have plaqued on rural communities... stay in the dark.. you deserve it!!!

Lighting laws don't not have to mean turning lights out, it means lighting responsibly. Have the lights directed down & not up or to the side. Lower the wattage so that the glare is not overpowering. The right to light up your house ends when that light trespasses on someone else's property. If I want my property dark, the lights from my neighbors should not light up my yard for free.

In some town / townships it is the zoning officer that can issue tickets. The lighting ordinance can fall under zoning.
