Soon Mt. Penn will have no businesses. No wonder their taxes are so damn high.

Simply put, if a location does not function well it gets closed. Business is not about keeping people employed, it is about keeping shareholders happy with their investments. If you want to play the socialism game, go visit the countries that currently have it and see what their unemployment and economies look like. It stinks for people to be out of work, but it's a matter of figuring out what jobs could last until retirement, working hard to prove your worth to the company, and moving on when things do not turn out the way you would like.

Wait, I thought it was necessary
to have a bank at every street
corner and grocery store.

In addition to having a bank on every street corner and in every grocery store, you're forgetting pharmacies! Lord knows there aren't enough of them. I think I still saw some green grass in Berks County, so you folks at CVS and Rite Aid better get cracking before Subway comes along and builds!
