And we should ship out all of the deer, turkeys, dogs, cats and other animals that we see on the road.. Do you think? You are so stupid. Why dont you watch how you drive, where you drive and you wont be hitting an elk. They are beautiful animals and i dont see a problem with them. If someone hits one with their car and they die then you know what it was that persons time to die. You die when god wants you so why dont you all just shut up about the elk.
I am wondering do you think that all deer should be taken out of kentucky and placed elsewheres since so many have hit them??
Do you think we should ship out everyone that drives cause everyone can wreck and kill you quicker than an elk could.
Shut up people about elk

If you took a decision once to build a population of elk in Kentucky then the same body/decisionmakers should show their knowledge and skills by applying proper measures on a longterm basis to keep the elk population at a sustainable level without allowing the population to grow out of proportion. I presume that in a state in one of the world's most modern nations this should be no problem at all. So: I ask: Are the elks a problem in general or are some people just complaining because they are so full of themselves and their own nests only ?

Why is it a prerequisite that the presence of elk (or moose or elephants or whales or seals ...)must be "funny" ??? ("Tired of them" - I am tired of people who feed on burgers and junk food and are hardly able to walk outside paved roads - complaining if anything "disturb" their unhealthy, spoiled and obese days ignorant of everything that is necessary to keep a healthy nature and diversity) So sorry, I don't understand YOUR "problem".......

People with souls are much more important than animals. Don't worry bout it, SNJ is a nut! My family and I almost hit an Elk recently and my child's life is much more important than an Elk. And SNJ I have to drive here, I live here. I do drive carefully but HWY 221 has many sharp, blind curves and hills. They run ou in front of u. And SNJ WHERE are u from? Easy for u to judge when it dosen't affect u or threaten your family. But Thanks for the common courtsey and respect 4 human life.

But Thanks for the common courtsey and respect 4 human life. Where I come from you can read here. I'm far away from you so you have got a point. But we are facing similar situation in most parts of Scandinavia - but not elk (which is not a European deer species). We face the moose being a "threat" on our roads. Much bigger and heavier. But no-one here have as yet claimed to extinguish the moose because we realize that those were here before us and it is us that build our roads through their habitats. It is not a question about man or animal. It is a question of being a part of nature. If you've got too many elks blame your authorities and require of them to make they pave the way for escalating hunting to a level that can keep the elk population down to an acceptable level. It is in my view just a very legitime requirement from citizens - provided your views on the actual population and threat is realistic. If you cannot hunt them yourselves invite some Norwegian hunters to come across and do the job without they having to pay out of their noses to do it....eh? Is elk meat not tasting good enough to make elk attractive for hunting?

If the Elk population is truly past it's safe numbers (to the point where finding food is becoming hard and they are starting to starve and/or become diseased as we have found with deer populations) I would support regulated seasonal hunting. I would never support removing the entire population based on a few car accidents and the ATV club who can no longer ride through a portion of land that was given to the Elk.
I know a few people have called and complained but there will be far greater numbers coming forward in defense of the Elk.
I am really sorry to hear about anyone getting hurt or killed in accidents with Elk but the fact is driving on these roads you are just as likely to be hit by a drunk, someone having a heart attack, someone going over the line, sliding on ice, sliding on wet pavement, brakes givig out, people going too fast, people going too slow, people not paying attention, a deer, a dog, a cow, a person....etc
Elk were reintroduced into an area they once existed and we made right with nature by bringing them back. They have been coexisting with humans in many other parts of the world without an uproar for a century of driving now, let's look to those places and find the best way to coexist with them now.
For all of those people who have complained to Alby Brock soley based on the fact that can't play with their little ATV's...grow up.

"PPL AROUND HERE CAN'T DRIVE ON THE ROADS" - Come on...what are they doing a hands across america thing and all on the road now? Exagerate much? Do you realize in countries like South Africa that it is not uncommon to have to stop for an Elephant to cross the road? Imagine hitting one of them? Somehow they have learned to coexist.(And yes they have cars and a larger population density then we do here) "OR GROW A GARDEN FOR THEM " - If it's a problem put up a fence. It's not like all the other wild animals don't come in and nibble as well. "IF THEY MOVE THE ELK YOU WONT BE ABLE LOOK FOR THE HORNS" - Not sure what this means. "YOU ARE THE ONE NEEDS GROW UP " - Classic 5 year old retaliation. Fact is they are not going to remove the Elk. If anything they will determine the population is at the max or exceeding and start allowing seasonal regulated hunting. The best anyone can do in your situation is find the best ways to co-exist with them.

I've got something much better than a fence...hehehe. j/k. Electric fence does the job for me.
" The best anyone can do in your situation is find the best ways to co-exist with them. The best way I've found to co-exist with them is...well, I've never really had a problem with them. Several people are now making a little money since the introduction of elk back to Kentucky. Those that have a guide service, some butchers, land owners who charge a fee to hunt their property, this is just a few.

A snow fence might be a possible solution for the gardens. Easy to put up/take down and also useful for the winter months.
