Rose Wallace of 815 Storey Road have this web site where they say that they will give their home to who ever writes the best essay about farm life. You read on and find out that they want you to give them $100.00 with each entry. And then you find out that they will not "give" away until they get 3000 entries?

Is this legal?

What if they only get 2999 entries, do they get to keep the farm and the money?

I sure would like to win a farm for $100.00, but what is to stop them from keepint the contest going until they get 4000 entries?

I NEED to win a farm for $100...but can't spare the $100 and Mrs. Wallace stated pretty clearly that she wants it to go to "a young family with children" which puts me out of the running on two counts anyway unless she is willing to count all the "children" I have with 4 legs...you see, I rescue and provide sanctuary for an incredible number of animals to live out their natural lives in peace with love and I could certainly use more space. Could probably write a winning essay too. But I am not exactly young anymore either. And like you say, what if she doesn't receive the minimum 3,000 essays? Got the money and got the farm. That could turn out to be a really good deal for them. In any case, if they've received even ONE entry, they're already ahead of the game. It can only get better for them from there.

Rose:

Rose and her husband did not think this through. Below an email that I sent Rose. They will have to clear this with thier lender. From the article in the Reading Eagle, they still owe on the property. I do not know if it is legal in Ohio to hold a lottery for a home without being a none for profit organization. But, it seem that they should check before they get in legal problems.

You have a problem! First the $100 X 3000 contest which is $300,000 is taxable. You will pay between 20 to 30 percent in taxes. You also will have to pay social security and medicare taxes which are about 15.3 percent of $97,500 http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/cbb.html#Series .

Take $300,000 subtract $60,000 plus $14918 plus Ohio state taxes. Your money to send from the $300,000 will be less than $225,000.

My sister entered this contest 3 yrs. ago. She sent in 2 entries along with $200. She does not have a home computer so I wrote to that "paint" e-mail address for updates. A representative for Rose Wallace said that they did not meet their quota of 3,000 entries at that time. This was last yr. E-mailed them several times with no replies this year? Has anybody heard? Have they skipped with everybody's money? They need to have a winner soon or refund some money- any comments, suggestions? My sister also contacted Fox News with no reply? What gives?

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
