Wish I could have had my own newspaper article when I was looking for a job after law school. ;)

No need to be employed by a county if you wish to be a public servant. Try Goodwill or the Salvation Army or any number of volunteer positions available.
Perhaps the real goal is the $100k package of salary, benifits, and pension public servant wannabes can only find from a government job.
Go find a productive job a quit trying to suck off the taxpayer.

When I graduated from law school five years ago, the only people that found jobs right away were those in the top 5-10% of the class. Everyone else had to hit the pavement scrounging up a job or using every connection they had. It took me three years to realize that I had a better future outside of the law. To those contemplating law school, don't listen to the career services people who tell you about the high starting salaries in the Twin Cities - the majority of law school graduates don't end up working at Gray Plant Mooty or Lindquist & Vennum.

Why are you dissing someone who actually wants to be a public defender, working on behalf of those who can't afford (but still deserve) legal representation? PDs don't make a lot of money, especially considering their caseloads. Be glad there are people who want to defend the poor!

Most of the Lawyers I know never practiced law, but used their law degree to get a good job. My Cousins Granddaughter for one works for the home land scurity department in Chicago. Better pay and a whole lot better hours. She did the do good stint for a while and felt like a slave. Presently she works descent hours and has a life making far more money then a do gooder. She did some of that in law school and it looked good on her resume.

So what? There are plenty of empty suit lawyers around. Just look at Hillary Clinton or Shelia Blair of the FDIC.

It doesn't pay as well or have generous retirement benefits, which is why people like this want to work for the government. Plus, working in the public defender's office is the obligatory bonefide to climb the ladder of DFL politics.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Aries

The behaviour of somebody around you (most probably your partner or family member) may be rather irrational today. Alternatively, a surprise involving one of these people is possible. Try to keep your domestic plans reasonably flexible to cover all possible outcomes. The focus is on improving your relationship with your partner or with friends today. Any outings should go very smoothly.
