This idea they have wont help resolve the drug issues. If anything, the drugs will increase. I mean think about it. They put an amusment park here, peoples homes will be torn down just to put it in. Then where are most of them going to go? Either on the streets selling pills, dope, ass or whatever to get money to get something else. I aint saying its a bad idea as far as entertainment goes, im just saying its not best for the ecconomy and it WONT stop the drugs.

First of all, it's not "Rockie Top", it is "Rocky Top" moron. If you really were from this area, you should at least know how to spell it. Otherwise do us a favor and go back to Ohio. Second of all, not everyone in Lake City are inbred, nor are they on pills/meth. Third of all, a lot of people seem to be laughing outside of the city because they are douche hats and they don't live/work in a failing town that is in a desperate situation. Forth of all, when the town name does change, there is this little thing called 'application updates' that can update system software on cellphones, tablets, GPS, etc. I'm sure that maps/GPS/phone software will be updated to accommodate the changes. With your somewhat 'know it all' attitude, I thought that you would have thought of 'APPLICATION UPDATES' before you would have replied so stupidly on a public forum?

Now for the tax issues. Taxes are taxes are taxes. Either way the town goes, taxes are going to be raised. The town is failing and would soon be unincorporated if it doesn't come up with some way to keep functioning/bring in new revenue. It may be a 'gimmick' or whatever, but at least they are doing something, taking action, to try to save the town. I work in Lake City everyday of my life, because I don't want to be like the morons that I see commuting from Campbell County/Scott County to work in Knoxville. I really don't see how they come out in gas money after the commute unless they are making 15.00 plus everyday. And not everyone has their college degree. Some of us couldn't use daddy's or mommy's money to go to college. Some of us are trying to struggle and work a fulltime job, while attending community college. If I was to even fathom getting a job in Knoxville, I would simply be sensible and move over that way. There is nothing very redeeming about this area that keeps me here other than the fact that I don't have a degree yet and don't make a enough money to move to Knoxville.

I live in a nearby town called Caryville, whom just a few short years ago, was in a similar situation. The town was about to go bankrupt, like Jellico, and the state comptroller was about to step in and take over the town because Caryville wasn't generating enough revenue to function. So they decided to put liquor stores/by the drink on the ballot and a lot of people were against it, but thankfully the resolution passed, much to the 'Harbingers of Doom' that declared crime would rise and the city would turn into Sodom and Gomorrah. Three years later and Caryville is starting to thrive.

Case in point, I would rather see Lake City change the town name to "Rocky Top" than wind up like the town of Jellico. I feel like that town should be the laughing stock, if anything, because a lot of that town's situations could have been prevented by managing the town correctly and by voting in liquor by the drink/store sales. It seems like every other week, Jellico is headline news in certain local newspapers for not paying its bills, for not being able to pass a resolution, for being at the heart of some silly legal battle, etc. At least Lake City is trying to do something.

I'm VERY supportive of this venture and when it finally does come to reality and the groundbreaking starts for some of these attractions, I know I'm going to look back on these forums like these where people keep naysaying the project and laugh because it's happening folks. Regardless of naysayers, as soon as the name change passes at state level, the projects start the building phase.

It's kind of pointless to argue with idiots on here. You can validate facts from fiction and you can back those facts up with data, but everyone is going to have their own opinions, as stupid as they may be and will ignore the facts laid out right in front of their very eyes.

So "Get Real", since the town needs to be rid of the "pillbillies" and "meth heads" I want your take on how it should be handled properly? Exactly how to you propose that the town get the extra money appropriated into the town treasury to hire more police patrol for starters? With a treasury fund that is sinking into the red constantly and no new businesses wanting to settle here, exactly what do you propose to get that money? Police force require pay. That pay comes from the city treasury. Without extra funds for extra police, it's hard to clean up a crime ridden city.

As for drawing tourists from out of state, does anyone seriously even take a notice to the booming business that we have right off exit 128? At certain times of the day, you can barely get across the intersection that I affectionately call "Malfunction Junction Number 2" (Malfunction Junction Number 1 is in front of Shoney's in Caryville) and Pilot and Shell stay packed with, wait for it...you probably didn't guess it because you are about halfway stupid or blind or both, but TOURISTS. People from out of state that naturally stop at Exit 128 for um, I don't know, GAS? BEER? DINNER? And there are a bunch of them because I work at one of the gas stations and see them everyday.

And contrary to popular belief from the idiots like you that seem to think that something like this proposal wouldn't be successful, these people ARE looking for something to do here in Lake City. They are looking for WINE. They are looking for souvenirs. They are looking for nicer hotels/motels to stay in than the rundown Lambs Inn and Blue Haven. Days Inn is pretty much the best we got and that's not saying much. Even though some of them are passing through to places like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge ultimately, these people still have money to spend and they WILL spend it here in this city if there are attractions that cater to what they are looking for.

So when these projects do start getting built, and the money does begin to flow into the treasury, that's when the city can start adding to police force and began to build up the town. Right now, the city is on the verge of collapse and I applaud the council for doing ALL they can do to make sure the city survives, even if it does involve risk. Every business venture involves risk and setbacks.

So, "Get Real" please propose your plan to get the city out of it's dire straights. I'm waiting.

First of all, a turkey farm would either be an industrial venture or farming venture. So that could possibly add jobs to the city, but not a lot, if your proposal was real and not sarcastic. And there is nothing that says "Come buy me" to a tourist about a turkey.

Second of all, it's just not ONE person that is involved in this venture, but multiple investors. There are going to be the main people involved, which we keep hearing about, but then there are going to be other investors and silent investors.

3rd of all, the town council is trying to save the town and in the business world, you have to take risks and there will be setbacks, and you have to allow for setbacks and the risks involved.

Almost every business out there has what is called a 'gimmick'. Wendy's has the little red haired girl as a logo. Wal-Mart has their "Always low prices" tagline. Burger King "Has it Your Way" and so forth and so forth. This business venture's tagline or 'gimmick' is actually going to be the town of Lake City as "Rocky Top" They are literally taking the whole entire city and building all these attractions and amusements around and inside the town itself. So I can see where the investors would want to see it necessary to want the town name to be changed to "Rocky Top" to not only advertise their own 'brand', but seal the town around the attractions. Incorporating and maximizing the city's potential seems to be at the heart of this business venture.

And before any purists get started about Dollywood, let me remind you that Dollywood wasn't always "Dollywood" It was originally a much smaller park called Silver Dollar City. And all the towns around it were already pretty popular tourist destinations before "Dollywood" When Dolly Parton bought it out and expanded Dollywood, the region took off and has remained that way ever since.

Can this be the next Dollywood? No, I do not believe so. I believe the project will have setbacks, especially with construction costs. I believe that the cash flow predicted in the first year of attractions being open is way off. I think they are overshooting/overestimating costs vs. cash flow a wee bit. However, I do believe that it will be visited by at least 40% of the people that stop off Exit 128 in the first year alone. That's 40% more tax dollars into the town treasury. I may be off on my estimate, but I'm a little more prudent with my business numbers.

Do I believe people will WANT to visit these attractions? Yes. It's kitschy. It's "Hillbilly" It's the Yankee Vs. Southerner culture. Of course people from the north are going to want to visit these places, if not just from out of curiosity, but just to have something to do while they are stopping at 128/129 for dinner or gas. And a souvenir shop will really take off. Especially if it sells postcards. I can't tell you how many people come into my gas station looking for freaking postcards. And UT stuff. And Tennessee stuff in general. And we have NONE. Nor anywhere in town to really buy it.

I think this project will be great for the city, if it's done correctly. Much to the contrary of all the naysayers on here and in the area.

If you read the actual rip off reports, then you will see that one person is saying that Bob Edwards is the owner of this company, not Brad Coriel. So who is the owner? Bob or Brad? And why would this type of company be interested in theme parks and attractions when they are in the business of hocking door to door sales of cable company packages???

If Brad Coriel is not the owner of Rocky Top Marketing, but is actually some sort of, shall we say, businessman that has gotten this company to represent the project, then that's a big game changer in my opinion. Rocky Top Marketing as a company sucks. This company tried to contact me about a job once and I Googled them and seen the job was a door to door sales type of job and was like, NO thank you.

I don't have enough said information to know exactly who the key investors are and who the key players in this thing are. But I do know that if the investors chose this company to market the project, all I can say is uh huh :(
