Cape Girardeau lawyer suspended from practicing by Supreme Court

So now that Derrick Williams has been barred from practicing law, what happens to his clients? I personally traveled to Jackson less than one week ago with a young man who paid a significant retainer to Williams, believing that Williams would represent him. This young man works a minimum wage job and paid every cent he could scrape together to Williams. If Derrick Williams is now barred from practicing law in the state of Missouri, what can be done to ensure that people like this young man receive the legal counsel they deserve under the law, the counsel that was promised to them by Derrick Williams? And if Williams fails to repay the money he obviously obtained under fraudulent circumstances, can charges be brought against him?

I have contacted the missouri bar for information about this issue.They told me he is supposed to contact his clients within 15 days in writeing and any unearned money should be returned to the client.If he cannot return this money the bar has a fund for this problem. I also printed myself a copy of the law rules . i got this information from (case net) where they ordered his license suspended it had a link to show the law rules.If this man took money after he was barred he is in trouble . he was supposed to already show the court he cannot continue helping his client because he has been barred.

find you another attorney. one that he does not know because he drags his feet and will not get the job done. He talks with a big stick but wont never swing it. Beware. You may have just lucked out and dont know it.

1. A lot depends upon the original fee agreement with the lawyer. In a criminal case, attorneys usually charge a flat fee amount to take the case through the preliminary hearing and/or trial or sentencing or disposition of the case. Since the lawyer is not able to finish the case because of his/her suspension or disbarment, it would be fair for the attorney to itemize the actual work performed and actual number of hours that s/he spent on your matter. You will have to agree on a fair hourly fee unless it’s outlined in the fee agreement and the lawyer should refund any unearned portion of the fee paid. If the lawyer does not have the means to make the refund, if appropriate, then you may need to contact the Client Security Fund at The Missouri Bar that is available for such situations when the lawyer has been disbarred or suspended.

Derrick Williams is a very good attorney. Are you just mad because you couldn't beat your case? Maybe you should of thought about the consequences before you broke the law. People who live in class houses shouldn't throw stones.

So what is the status with Mr. Williams? Did clients get their money back that was owed and does anyone know if he will be able to practice again?

I doubt if his clients even got a phone call about his situation.

I sure hope someone get James A. Flummer of Cairo, 7 years and I still don't have my deed or the unused money I paid him. He said he was running for states Attorney in Cairo, I hope he lost. After all these years the other person decided to give me less than they first agreed to because Flummer drug his butt.
