As a former employee of Jarmans and an avid motorcyclist, I have heard numerous horror stories about accidents involving motorcycles. I can tell you from experience that the majority of accidents involving a car/motorcyle is NOT the fault of the motorcyclist. I cannot tell you how many times I have been put in a bad situation by a vehicle merging into me, almost running over me at a stop light or sign, pulled out in front of causing me to slam on my brakes, etc. So VDOT telling ME to be more careful is like them telling a mouse to be more careful playing with a cat. Only a small percentage of riders are injured because of their actions.

Safey classes are available right here at AHS through the community education program.
Go to opendoors1.org to sign up for BRC (basic rider course). Also known as the motor cycle safety class.

We had a nice, what was otherwise a quiet weekend hiking the AT. Could still hear loud motorcycles. The other annoyance which carries for miles from the highway are those damn jake brakes.

I love the roar of motorcycles. I've been ridin' all my life and I'm not gonna slow down now. If you don't like it, buy some earplugs.

Nothing sweeter than the sound of those dual pipes churning out 2500 rpm of sheer bliss. If you don't ride, you won't understand. Sorry you can hear us from the AT, but we can smell hippie from the parkway, so I guess it's even.

I've got some neighbors that moved in down the street with LOUD motorcycles. My poor animals just about jump our of their skin when they go by.

They've got no consideration but their own.

Well, if some of the riders, not ALL,need to behave and not show off. This is what causes a lot of accidents. Speeding, wheelies,DWI and passing where you are not supposed to, in other words a idiot on 2 wheels. You're on 2 wheels and if you hit something in the road, it's a lot harder to not crash. Like the 18 year old the other week, who was drunk and speeding at 120 mph when he crashed on I64. Drive like you have some sense and be aware of ALL things around you.

I can sympathize with you. Same thing happened to me, but they moved in next door. My house is a good 200' away, but unfortunately their carport faces my bedroom. When he starts up his motorcycle to go to work, I have to get up with him.

He leaves the bike warming up for about 10 minutes and the rumbling actually resonates on my walls. After work and some weekends he works on his bike and has his biker friends over. There is no peace. I've talked to him about it. He's nice enough, but really doesn't give 2 sheets about me.

I'm sure your neighbors say the same thing when you leave your dogs out to bark at 3am.

Be nice to you neighbors ...ditch the de-tuned Harley and buy a precision Japanese bike.

My dog rarely barks outside (neither does my cat). If she does I tell her to be quiet. She's inside at night anyway. I can't say the same thing about the neighbor's dog. He won't tell it to be quiet and he leaves it in the yard after he rides off. The dog's bark doesn't bother me nearly as much as the loud motorcycle though. I count the days until it is too cold for him to use it.

Why are people so inconsiderate? I would never raise my children to be like that.

I've no problem whatsoever with bikes that are quiet, and wish more people used them.

My point exactly, Grretchen. They are available, but it's probably not going to be a Harley ... blame it on their crankpin V-twin engine and the aftermarket exhausts.
There are plenty of overpowered 1000+cc bikes out there that are quiet ( ultra quiet BMW's - so much so, you can barely tell they're running). But folks that ride Harley's aren't looking for a quiet ride, and don't give a darn if you think they're loud or not.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Aries

Keep a firm grip on your money today to avoid anyone else getting their mitts on it. If you're out in public you should keep your wallet or bag clamped to your side, just in case it goes walkabout. You should also make sure you check any bills and invoices that you're given, in case they contain a mistake. It's a day when errors and deceptions are highly likely.
