Kansas House speaker sorry for offensive e-mail

Full story: The Wichita Eagle

Kansas House Speaker Mike O'Neal on Thursday apologized for an e-mail that made fun of First Lady Michelle Obama's hairstyle and mockingly called her "Mrs. YoMama." "Sorry, just had to forward this latest holiday message," O'Neal reportedly wrote in the e-mail he shared with fellow Republican lawmakers.

"Political cartoons are a part of American culture" according to Mike O'Neal. That's so but they usually are directed only at office holders or those seeking to hold office, not at their families. Now I may be wrong but I don't remember Mrs. Obama holding office or running for one. Basically this was racist, nasty, and immature and I'm not surprised considering the source. Kinda makes you proud of the Kansas Majority Leader and those who received that e-mail who were so sure to appreciate it.

Childish and mean. That's your Kansas GOP.

As usual Ks. leaders have put Kansas in the headlines again as the #1 racist backward looking state in the nation. Congrats to the Majority "leader".

And I suppose neither one of you have ever done or said anything you later regretted. Oh, no, I'm sure you haven't since you're both perfect. And since 1 person did it, your perfection allows you to brand the entire party as the same. You two are as bigoted as O'Neal's email, just in a different direction.

I happen to think that classification of others, and for that matter, anything, is a human trait. Thus we've classified men into "races" because of skin color. I doubt if there are more than a few men on earth, who, on seeing a black person, don't first think, "there's a black person." It doesn't take long for that to go away. As soon as you think, "there's Naomi," or "there's Jim," you're by it. Trouble is, a lot of people on the left and the right can't get past the black and white and brown part.

I suppose in an all black world, the black people would be just people, but if a white man happened on the scene the first thing people would see would be "a white man."

I wonder at what point of bigness or littleness people stop thinking of color first. Like if you were eight foot tall would you be the giant or the Chinese giant? The biggest man in the world would be the giant, wouldn't he? Any more description would be unneeded.

Racism isn't confined to the white right as you call it. Many blacks are as racict or even more so than whites. It's not confined to just color either. Bigots are in every walk of life. My Great-Grandfather was called "that damned Quaker preacher" from the time he moved to Kansas until he was killed by the very Native Americans he was helping to feed and clothe. Those other 2 posters immediately trashed the entire Republican Party because of one poor decision. If that isn't bigotry, I don't know what is.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
