Lately it has been about illegals taking American jobs, now some are complaining because the jobs are in Mexico. Give it a rest, you can't have it both ways!

Those Jobe where never intended for the US.. they where intended for Cina or Taiwan.. do you think a person in the US would work for $4 dll an hour? Bill richardson is happy becasue he helped bring an project that will benefit the trasnportation, contrsturction, wharehouse, retail and more industries in the region.
FYI.. every Job generatedby a manufacturing industry creates 2 additional jobs in service.
<quoted text>
Maquiladoas pay way higher than the Mexican minimum wage. It is about $2.50 an hour plus 41.65 in benfits. Thats a total of $4.15 per hour
THIS IS NOT A SLAVE TRADe... Got to college and you'lllearn about Purchasing Power Parity, or PPP.. this wage is copred to $7 dll per hour in the US.
Imagine living on $7 an hour in the US. IMPOSSIBLE. But a Mexican worker will be able to buy a house, a newer used car, have healthcare and confortably bring food to a family of 4.
They are paying them a comparable amount of the minimum wage per hour of the US right now (including benefits), so when this new industry comes in, salaries will go up again. The same happened with Electolux. A worked there makes more money than if he crossed the border to work for minimum wage. Plus his standard of living is higher.
<quoted text>
This statement show what an IDIOT you are. Don't you understand that these type of investments is what is needed to reduce the amount of illegal immigrants flowing into the US??? the only way to decrease illegal immigration is to help raise the standard of living in Mexico and reduce that gap.
that statement just shows your green with onvy or your really stupid an uneducated.

Let me tell you.. these are not low paying jobs.. Juarez, and the state of Chihuahua have been benefited by investments of plants like Delphi, electrolux, Lexmark, Khol and others.
Beng able to buy a nice house, a new car, traveling to europe on the summer... that's not a low paying job my friend.
On the other hand, you look at el Paso, where the largest employers are EPISD, YsletaISD and Fort blis... Men.... THOSE ARE LOW PAYING JOBS!!!!
Uneducated redneck? By your post it looks like they don't teach spelling and grammar in Laredo.

Wrong, China does not use child labor to produce goods, where did you get that Nike uses child labor?.
Wrong, it is cheaper to produce in Mexico , in US labor costs are higher due to salaries, raw materials and in some cases low productivity. I outsource products in Mexico and Asia, I know what I am talking about. How about you?
Do not blame China and Mexico for your ignorance, read Business Week, Wall Street Journal, or at least Google.
Why don't you say how much they get paid?
You want to talk about salaries?
Go ahead, tell everyone how much they make and tell me its not slave labor.

And about Nike, your wrong.
The International Labor Organization has estimated that 250 million children between the ages of five and fourteen work in developing countries-at least 120 million on a full time basis. Sixty-one percent of these were in Asia, 32 percent in Africa, and 7 percent in Latin America. Most working children in rural areas were found in agriculture; urban children worked in trade and services, with fewer in manufacturing, construction and domestic service. Many of these children work in factories with horrible conditions such as unsafe environment, low wages, and excessive amounts of working hours. One company who is responsible for promoting slave labor is Nike. Philip H. Knight, who is currently the owner, chairman, and CEO of the company, founded Nike in the year of 1968. Phil Knight completed his education from the University of Oregon and the Stanford Business School by 1962. As a young businessman, he decided to travel to Japan and speak to the president of "Tiger shoes."

He presented himself as an American distributor of athletic equipment when he actually had nothing. He began selling running shoes under the name of Blue Ribbon Sports and eventually started producing his own athletic apparel, renamed his company "Nike." Within the first year, he sold $8000 worth of shoes and only received a $250 profit. "After some time, Knight turned to his old coach from school, Bill Bowerman, for advice on what to do next. Phil Knight wanted Nike to stand out above the rest. Once Bill Bowerman came up with the idea for having traction on the bottom of shoes, Nike had finally made its mark, The Nike Waffle Trainer stood out and made Nike the most unique shoe company of the 1970s. By the year of 1979, Nike was the most well-known shoe company in the world." They no longer just sold shoes but sporting equipment as well. However, Reebok surpassed Nike with the aerobic phase in athletics. In order to maintain the reputation of Nike, the world's best shoe corporation, Nike started producing shoes for different kinds of sports. Nike continued to rise in success throughout its prosperity by signing famous sports players like Michael Jordan. Today, Nike is a four billion dollar business that has had its ups and downs. Currently, Nike is having difficulties with the publicity it is receiving about its labor practices in China, South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In China, employees for Nike work twelve hour shifts for several days a week. Their wages are as low as sixteen cents an hour. There are sixteen people to a dorm room, and many pregnant women are fired. One specific example of this treatment is in the Wellco Factory, Dungguan China. The work-shift is eleven to twelve hours a day, seven days a week. It is obligatory--if the employee do not stay, he/she is fined.

Dorado,
Why do you have to be so ugly, when people tell the truth, people get mad, like yourself.
I guess the reason for all the influx of illegals in America is the low paying jobs right?
Yup, makes sense to me.
The Mexican government is corrupt and has no plan to boost the wages of their people, they would rather them come to the U.S. bring back their dollars and spend in Mexico.
Come on man, you need to catch a clue.
The corporations are benefiting by low wages, thats why they are there, and not here. Do you know how many jobs have been lost to Mexico from the U.S.?
I will bet you don't. The U.S. is now a service industry like you said about transportation and such. Unfortunatley you cannot compete with slave labor in the manufacturing businesses.
But quality you can. Look at the quality coming from a slave labor country like China. Tainted dog food, lead in paint on toys, toothpaste propblem...etc...etc.
Its all about the money, has nothing to do with the people of Mexico or any other country using slave labor.
Go back to your liberal taught college and learn how to spell. You are very misinformed or just can't comprehend what slave labor is all about.
Oh and by the way, welcome to America and freedom of speech. That would be the 1st amendment in case you didn't know.

funny, you people complain about jobs leaving the USA but you continue to shop at Walmart which almost forces US companies to move their production out of the country.
Actually, since NAFTA and the EPA's regulations on businesses in the U.S. Alot of companies have been forced to go to other countries just to stay in business to compete.
How is the EPA in Mexico? That's what I thought.
Just throw the chemicals on the ground it will dry up.

First of all, I apologized for all the typos. I wrote the whole thing in under 2 minutes.
I didnt meant to be ugly. but attacking Richardson for no reason doesnt make sense either. About Mexico having no plan you are completely wrong. Mexico has decreased severe poverty from 60% to less than 30% in less than 15 years.
I know there's still a long way to go but that is a major improvement. Countries like China, Peru and a lot of African nations are looking at mexican programs like Solidaridad and Progresa because of the success rates and innovative approach.

I have lived in Juarez and Guadalajara and I have seen how foreign investment has helped develop the country in the last 20 years. There are still a lot of people in deep poverty that prefer to risk their life and freedom to cross the border and I think that's very sad. That's why I work towards proviiding better opportunities to them. I did told you how much they make here.$4.15 per hour including benefits. I know you might consider this slave labor but remember that we live in a country where we pay $9K avg per yr on medical insurance and $7 bucks for a burger and fries.
These people don't need those fries, nor that plasma tv in your living room. there are more important basic needs like shelter and food for their kids that need to be covered first. If we provide the poorest people with those basic need then we can work on more "advanced" needs.
Just so you know, Mexican wages are not competitive at all with Chinese wages, a Chinese worker gets paid one fifth of what a Mexican worker get paid. however Mexico does have a competitive advantage in skills and quality. Ford is about to invest $20 billion in the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, VW already has their largest manufacturing facility in Puebla.
I Juarez, plant like Electrolux employ people with teachnical associate degrees and others like Delphi, Valeo and Lexmark employover 2000 engineers. These are very good jobs and good salaries that were only possible because 20 years ago, a bunch of your "slave labor" factories came to Juarez, paid our parents "slave wages" so we could go to school, become engineers and have a good life IN MEXICO, without having to go to the US. What's wrong with that?
About Corporations, you as a consumer are the number one responsible for that. Of course a corporation will look for cheaper alternatives, that's what they are in business for, to make money.

All those tax holidays and exemptions for the scum who operate twin plants has hurt mexico. The healthcare infastructure is in shambles and cannot meet its mandates. Law enforcement is a joke...Juarez has never been more dangerous....same for Tijuana and Nuevo Laredo. We are supposed to think that the twin plant has nothing to do with this deterioration? The twin plant has managed to make a bad situation worse. The twin plants operate under special status in mexico...where normal normal tax laws do not apply to this special breed of scum...they get a corrupted pass.

Mexico is getting worse...not better. You can spout all the pro trade....pro corporate.... dot.org s you want. They are just shill sites...much as you are here. NAFTA is a failure. Mexico is closer to revolution now as compared to 20 years ago. The USA knows it cannot seal the border because illegal immigration acts as a pressure relief valve. Once that is cut off....I imagine they will be cutting off the heads of people like you who work to exploit the people and resources of Mexico.

Better invest in more goon squads....err security!

I used to have compassion for the people of Mexico because their government didn't care enough for it's people. I now have a different outlook because of the young dis-respectful gang mentality influence brought to the US. How can the United States not be insulted and fed up with the careless attitude of these border jumpers?
