I bought a dv9000 that came with Vista... but Vista ran terribly so I installed XP.
I'm interested in what drivers i need to install. I installed the graphics driver, network device drivers, and sound drivers (from HP's driver page)... Are there any other drivers i need? Like for power managment or anything related speficically to this laptop?
Thanks

Yeah I have a dv6648se. Made Vista completely die and bluescreen every time I logged in after using it for 2.5 days. All I tried to do to cause that was install a program (Alcohol 120%) which was seemingly so incompatible with that piece of shit OS that it locked me out of the system entirely. Had to use Linux to retrieve my files.
So in answer to your question, you have to google around. HP specifically states that laptops designed for Vista they will supply some stuff (software/drivers) for, but not everything (ie. no sound/dvd/network drivers). So far I've been doing trial and error mixing and matching XP drivers from other laptop models. Best advice I can offer ya, I guess. Try using msinfo32 (type in start>run) and the device manager to find out what hardware you have and try googling for the appropriate drivers/software for it. The hardware missing drivers will show up in your device manager with yellow question marks, fyi. So check the HP site for drivers/software for your specific laptop model and the corresponding series (ie. mine is a dv6448se, series is dv6000). Good luck to ya!

So wait.. You installed a program thats known incompatable program, and when it crashed your system, it's somehow the "crappy OS"?
Anywho, he is right. Google it and look for a similar laptop's drivers.
(I'll give him ten points for showing me the msinfo32 command)
Good luck, Will

Great idea.... msinfo really is helpful when you are missing all drivers... it will list f***k all.
