I've had mine for almost 3 years, it certainly runs hot but no other problems ever. Think the battery has gone right now I was just looking to see if others had batteries running out after 3 years of almost daily use!

I have a ZD8000 and recently I had to purchase a new hard drive, along with it is so hot you can not stay on the unit for an extended amount of time. now, I have 8 lines vertically through my monitor.
Called HP and they said $600 to $800 to repair, may as well buy a new cheaper, lighter one for the same price.
Please email me a barbie417@comcast.net to include in a class action suit against HP

My HP8004ap Blue screen of death happended in May 08, less than 3 years after purchase. I expected a renowned brand, AU$3100 notebook, to last a lot longer before needing the whole motherboard replaced. I contacted HP, and pointed the attention to these forums, but their reply was that most of these forums were from overseas and claimed that they had received no complaints of this nature here in Australia. What an absolute load of rubbish. I have seen a couple of postings from Australia on this very site. And the symptoms described by over 100 people in these forums ; the over heating, the stripes on the screen etc. are exactly the same as what happened to mine. This particular model always had a built in time bomb in it, and HP are blatantly refusing to acknowledge this. I have now bought a Mac. My HP is useless as the screen is completely black. A very expensive mistake that was. HP should be held responsible and made to replace or repair their faulty products. It would hardly put a dent in their multi million dollar finances compared with that bad name they will get from all these faulty products. Anyone please keep me posted if anyone initiates class action suit. Count me in big time. My email address is lyngbye@mydesk.net.au

The ZD8000 has a poor cooling design. It is excessively prone to airborne particles, especially pet dander. I bought 3 zd800s almost 3 years ago and only one has given me trouble. It was overheating so bad that after several minutes it would shut itself down. After months on the line with HP tech support I finally gave up and addressed the issue myself. One of the fans had stopped turning. That was the clue. Something was blocking it. I took a high power vacuum cleaner and sucked the fan ports clean from the outside...i.e. reversed the air flow. I pulled gobbs of debris from the computer. GOBBS! Afterwards the computer ran cool but the damage was done. We've experienced excessive replacement parts...3 hard drives, 2 DVD drives, 3 batteries...all I suspect are due to surge damage caused by the overheating. Some of you might be able to save your computers simply by cleaning them out. I suck all three of mine monthly and I get a substantial amount of trash (handfuls) from each. But they stay cool now and I have not had any trouble with the two that had only been hot as opposed to over hot. The zd8000 has a desktop processor in it and creates a lot of heat but doesn't have the space to cool like a desktop so you need to keep it CLEAN. Don't use it on your lap because that will close the air to the fans. Make sure you use it on clean flat surfaces. You might invest in a cooling chill pad...only about $30. It's a good investment. Good luck

The lines in the screen are due to a defective screen. They will not go away. It has to be replaced.

I too have had to buy a replacement Laptop. My top of the line at the time ZD8000 failed shortly after the Warrenty expired. Screen has matrix like symbols shortly before a blue screen. I have been a long time supporter of HP products. I would love to get something for this $2000 dollar paper weight. Why hasnt someone started a class action lawsuit? scavuoto@hotmail.com
