I read your report in Friday's Business Section of my local paper of Wal-Mart profits rising, even though sales stall. It's a great artical, but you should tell the rest of the story. Shouldn't you expand on this story with some truths. The reason their profits are up is because Wal-Mart has raised their prices on everything that has to do with their Great Value labels. Here is one example: Chicken Broth(Great Value) their brand use to be $0.50 and now it's $0.72 and this is not the only product they sell under the name of Wal-Mart Great Value Label. Everything that had the old labels on them were low in price, just like I showed you with the Chicken Broth, but once they switched to a plain white label with Great Value on it has risen in price. Great Value Green Beans use to sell for about $0.59 or $0.69 are now priced $0.97! So it is no wonder their profits have raised even though sales were stalled. I think you should report all the facts and the fact they have NOT CUT costs, but have raised them on every product they own and is labeled as GREAT VALUE!! I guess they figured since they changed the label to a cheaper one, they ought to raise the price of their products. I had mentioned the Green Beans as an example, well not only have the raised the price, but now you get less green beans in the can. Yeah, they might want you to believe they didn't do this, but we measured the older type label for green beans and measured the new type label contents and they are approximately 1/3 less then the old label of Great Value Green Beans. So, it is no wonder at all that their profits raised....why wouldn't they when they start charging you more for less. You can get better prices at your local store, rather than buying from Wal-Mart!!!
Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Gary |
