For instance: do they have the SM in his new role and EXA in the new role? Do they slowly phase out the manager?, mess with the budget? Overload them, then underload them to see where the threshold of productivity is? The only reason I can gather about the secrecy is if they are piloting different senarios with and without the SM.

Maybe we can make a point by overloading the phone lines, and swamping them with mail.
