Other mgts are saying that they have already been told they are going to be an asmt by their Cl or store manager

Well...I mean, unofficially, I already know which of my assistants I am going to recommend for ASMT and which I am not. So, I guess in that sense it's already known. But, even so, there is an official application period in which my assistants must apply. And, everyone who applies, will have to be given an answer yes or no.

What are you looking for in a good asmt?

Store managers received a letter in compass and were instructed to hand a copy out to each eligible MGT and any other qualified employee. Eligibility is 3.0 or higher on lasts year's performance review for MGT's, 3.7 for anyone else (highly unlikely anyone but MGT's will make the cut this year), and no write-ups in the past year. The application, ranking, and selection process are a bit complex, but basically it involves a basic online math test (40% of initial ranking), internal reference review done jointly by CL's/DM's and store managers (60% of initial ranking), then a behavioral interview with CL's and possibly your DM. Behavioral interview counts for 50% of total final rranking, and math test/reference review together are the other 50%. Highest rankings fill ASM-T slots as needed in your district, everyone else is S.O.L. Application dates range from Jan thru Feb and are dated by region, so you'll have to see storenet or your SM for specifics on when to apply.

No surprises in what im looking for. Just the basics. Hard worker. Good attendance. Good leadership and people skills. etc. etc. I won't bore you with the details. Pretty much the standard things I think any decent SM would be looking for.

From what my CL told me, all the CL's should have a plan in place as far as moves that would happen in their community with the promotions/demotions due to the rollout of ASMT/ASM roles. There are already 3 current EXA's that I know of in my district that will get demoted. I suppose every district / community will be very different all over the country. My district has a shortage of EXA's mainly due to them all being bad. There are a few good EXA's and a handful of worthy MGT's that are ready to move up. Personally, I was asked by my SM and CL to apply for the ASMT position. Just a little background info. My SM is not one of those who sits in the office all day reading emails. To be honest, I've never seen a SM who actually does that and I've been in three stores. My SM works with his team to develope the high performers and works with the low performers to bring them up to speed. To bring my comment back to the topic, there is a letter in compus that gives out the deadlines for the applications for ASMT to be turned in. By May of this year there should be a plan in place for the rollout of ASMT's. The interview will more than likely be 3-5 Behavioral questions. This is not confirmed information but it is highly probable. My source is my CL, and SM. I am in the Minneapolis District. Just for fun. My store has seen an increase in slaes for the past month as well as a 50k gross increase so far for the month of Jan comparec to Jan of 2012. It's nice to hear some good news on these forums.

Ah, sorry for the typos, I should have read my post before sending it. I meant to say "...so far for the month of Jan compared to jan of 2012."
