1 Apparently, you're right. The community of Halton Hills, nestled in the escarpment had so much potential, showed so much promise in becoming one of metro's - highly desirable bedroom community. Which of course is going to be hard to sell now, with two - two hundred foot pollutant stacks sitting at the base of it's view, spewing carcinogens into our atmosphere. The worst part is, POWER and our all our community leaders, except for Councillor Lewis, all jumped aboard that one and a half million dollar freight train, without any regard for what's best for the community. |

Enough of this green engery conserve crap the planet has already gone to hell so I couldn't care less, but I still make an effort to make sure my trash doesn't hit another car when I throw it out the window on the 401. |

Prepare now for higher natural gas prices: Alberta consumers group
Last Updated: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | 12:59 PM MT Comments4Recommended15 CBC News A consumer group is sounding the alarm following an announcement that natural gas rates in the northern half of Alberta will nearly double next month. Direct Energy Regulated Services announced Tuesday it is proposing to increase the cost of its product from $7.60 per gigajoule in May to $13 per gigajoule in June. The increase affects customers from Red Deer north. Company officials said the price reflects a 28-month high in the price of natural gas on world markets. The people of the province have to start pressuring their councils to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, says the executive director of Sierra Club Canada.
Stephen Hazell was in the city Saturday as part of the club's Atlantic chapter annual general meeting, which is being held over the weekend. He said the country hasn't seen the level of co-operation needed from either the federal or provincial governments to curb pollution, and now the Sierra Club is appealing to municipalities to take a hold of the issue through its Cool Cities campaign. The campaign promotes activists in cities that have signed the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection Program to push to see the conservation goals in that program are met. St. John's signed the agreement in 2001. Other communities in the province that have signed on are Conception Bay South, Corner Brook, Gander, Marystown, and Mount Pearl. "There's lots that can be done at the municipal level. Probably 40 per cent of emissions, overall, are under municipal control," he said. St. John's ahead of other municipalities... http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm... |

King Township turns down natural gas power plant
Last Updated: Thursday, July 3, 2008 | 10:58 AM ET Comments 19 Recommend 7 CBC News A municipality north of Toronto has become the latest jurisdiction to turn down a natural gas-fired power plant. King Township council, in York Region, voted 6-1 on Wednesday night against a plan to build the new power generating station which is supposed to put an end to brownouts and blackouts during times of heavy demand. Georgina, East Gwillimbury and Aurora have already turned down the plant. Debbie Gordon, who leads Megawhat, the group opposed to the plan, said the Ontario Power Authority shouldn't be planning a natural gas power plant that will emit greenhouse gases. "It's about making the right choice for future generations," said Gordon, who lives close to one of the possible sites in Georgina Township. "And it's not the only alternative we have, I mean there's solar, there's wind," she said... http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2008/0... |

Pipeline taps Canadian tar sands Partnership doubles capacity of line as oil demand grows. DIRK LAMMERS AP Business Writer SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— Two major energy companies will spend $7 billion to nearly double the amount of crude flowing through a pipeline from Canada’s tar sands to the U.S. Gulf Coast, highlighting intense demand for crude that was once too expensive to pull from the ground and process. Alberta, Canada-based TransCanada Corp. and Houston-based ConocoPhillips Co. said Wednesday they will add 500,000 barrels of daily capacity to the Keystone Pipeline, a 1,980-mile project connecting Hardisty, Alberta, with a delivery point near existing terminals in Port Arthur, Texas. Demand for oil has driven the price for a barrel of oil up 80 percent above where it was a year ago and up about 40 percent from the start of the year. That includes demand for crude from oil sands, previously an afterthought in the crude market... http://www.topix.net/forum/com/cop/TLUOQ6IIH5... |
