Full story: The Santa Fe New Mexican

The Sept. 18 article, "Mortgage execs quit amid charges," about Larry Goldstone, former CEO of Thornburg Mortgage, should have received more balanced reporting.

I couldn't agree more with Sam Hitt. After years of disenfranchisement, the only way I could be registered to vote was with the help of ACORN. The same story can be told by my friends Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. ACORN stands up for the rights of "the most disadvantaged citizens" and cartoon characters throughout the United States.

We need to demand fairness for ACORN now!

When it was revealed that Karl Rove played a central role in discrediting the anti-poverty group ACORN's voter registrations efforts, right-wing groups released videos showing a couple of its employees appearing to offer advice to a pimp and prostitute.
Sam Hitt

Conservatives will not cease with their vicious attacks and progressives are not the "turn the other cheek" wimps they used to be. Most people are on to the tactics conservatives use, are tired of the b.s. and want more from their political representatives than lies, win-at-all cost dance steps and frozen smiles on sorry faces. Media can spin it all it likes. The truth is still there and people know it when they see it.

Thank God for ACORN, how else could have been registered.

Somehow they turned in my registration form even though I'm a Republican.

I'll give them my security blanket, which they need more than I do, all they do is call me a liar, every day.

I agree with Mickey. Those vicious, evil, right-wing, goose-stepping, lying conservatives would have denied my right to vote too! Thanks to ACORN I got to register in several states, along with thousands of other dead citizens.
We need to support ACORN in upholding the best traditions of Chicago politics. Now!

No, I referred him to the same link that he sent me.

And provided a witty thought for him to contemplate for his future posts.

have anything better to do than make sarcastic comments about an organization that has helped many many people have a voice in this country? The reason they are being targeted by the neocons is because they are dangerous: i.e. they are helping the underprivileged and underrepresented. Thank god they are willing to help, instead of just sitting on the sidelines making snide remarks...

Ya, helping with step by step instructions in tax fraud, misreprenting illegal business actions so as to secure preferred rate government loans and the submission of thousands of bogus voter registrations. Just sitting on the sidelines? Maybe a few of the Penetentiary Inmate population should have spent a few more moments on the sidelines as well.

so unfair and suck so much I salute anyone who helps with tax "fraud." They (IRS) will take your last dime and leave you without a home, health insurance, most of your wages, and they'll chase you for ten years no matter how mentally or physically ill or broke you are because of them.
Of course it would be nice to make an exception for prostitution and not reward it, but as long as there are johns (repubs & dems & etc.) there will be sex workers.

potatoes in the grand scheme of things. Fraud in the billions occurs in big business all the time with nary a whisper. My tax guy in the 80s had all kinds of interesting suggestions too, but he was a respectable member of the community (and not coincidently a white male).

Wrong all the same.

ACORN is simply a socially acceptable substiture for the N word.

The Republicons funded ACORN for 12 of 14 years (6 of which Dubya as sitting in the White House)

So why have rules if 'smart' people are just going to abused them?

That's the argument of the fre-market lobby, correct? We can't trust people to play by the rules, so there shouldn't be any rules, and we should trust these people (who we just stated can't be trusted) to be good stewards of the market?

How does that make ANY sense whatsoever, except to individuals who are obsessed with making money, and will do or say anything to get that extra little bit of margin, no matter what its cost to society as a whole.

I mean, society is just there so that you can make money, right?

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Libra

It's one of those difficult days when anything can and will happen. Someone you were relying on might let you down, plans could be changed at the eleventh hour or a machine could go on the blink. To make matters worse, your energy levels are very erratic, so you feel full of beans one minute and ready to go to sleep the next. Don't make the situation worse by eating foods that give you a high followed by a slump.
