toyota carina e

hi, i wonder if anyone can help me, im a mere female who knows little about cars, even though ive been driving for 20 years. about 6 months ago i bought a carina e, p reg which has been reliable up to now. i put it into the garage for its mot and it failed on emissions. the guy spent ages trying to find out why it was emitting high levels of carbon monoxide but as far as i know he 'fixed' it and passed the mot. today i noticed the exhaust was blowing a lot and when i put my finger inside it was heavily coated with oil (assume it couldnt be anything else!)i think the guy had said theyd run oil thru the engine to test it so im hoping its just temporary but this worries me a lot not having much money and being a single parent. the guy had told me that next year it may need a new catalytic convertor but im concerned about whats happening now. can anyone give me advice and hopefully reassure me its nothing too serious. thanks - my email address is karambada8694@aol.com
