Another year, another multi-million car Toyota recall!

And what's this? It's for the same thing as before, different models? <sarcasm>

It only took them a year to figure out that most of the rest of their models have the same problem as the rest! They might as well recall every car made in the last decade and just get it over with!

Flowers and beads are one thing, but deja vu once more with these recalls. Unbelieveable!!

To beat a dead horse, if it would have ended a couple weeks ago with the rocket scientist report, that conspiracy theory might have gotten traction with those inclined to believe that sort of nonsense.

Toyota is it's own victim. There is no way they didn't know this recall wasn't coming two weeks ago. Whatever good graces they got from NHTSA, they have burned into the ground today.

These are the same people that wonder where the jobs went. They need look no further than the Toyota in their driveway. They turned their back on American manufacturing and ended up with an econobox, high unemployment, and a president that fights for everybody but them. Textiles, steel,....blah on and on and on, all the same.

I'm not disagreeing that Toyota sure ruined it's name the last few years.

I also agree international trade deals suck....Hyundai sold approx. 1 million vehicles in North America last year....the Big 3 combined sold 10,000 cars in Korea....they can manufacture and dump on us here, but we cannot over there.

I'm also not a fan of Obama, he's the American president whom Americans will be angry at. But America is not the only ones with sh*tty international trade deals...other western nations also have deals and plenty of companies setting up shop in places like Mexico and China with laid off workers back home.

Maybe laid off Toyota USA workers can come up here and become forestry/lumber workers(joking)....we are now selling more lumber to China than the USA. USA used to be the big market for Canada, now it's all changing. Business is business, but I hope it doesn't spread to other products/industries.....the $1billion+ a day trade that exists between the USA and Canada was always a good thing for both countries...Chian has way too much influence and it continus to get more.

Not sure what you meant by "US turning its back on US manufacturing", but it seems to me there was more than that involved.
A significant element has been a situation where consumers have been wooed by low prices for offshore goods and services, coupled with an incessant desire for "more"---ie, higher wages, less work, and in general---"excess".
These are compelling factors which have in many ways led to the US's current economic troubles--and which aren't going to be easy to deal with, I'm afraid.
Blaming Obama isn't the answer--the problem has been around a lot longer than he has.

Your figures about Korea are not accurate. GM sold over 10,000 cars in Korea last month alone. GM Daewoo is a major presence there. I had a 1988 Olds Cutlass that had a sudden unexpected acceleration problem. I was stopped at a red light, the next thing I know I am in the middle of the intersection. I didn't hit anyone but I did get a ticket as the Police didn't belive me. Olds never issued a recall, they would not fix my car(even tho they knew about it). I traded off this dangerous car and have never owned a GM since.

I don't doubt your sources of statistics---there's no question we sell very little manufactured goods in those countries---far less than they sell to us.
That said, the main reason for the imbalance is simply because we can't compete--our goods are too expensive.
We have priced ourselves out of the market.
The only items we have that they want are commodities--raw materials.
Until such time as our two nations (Canada and the US)can become more competitive in the world market place, we will not be able to do business on an equal basis.
The playing field isn't level--but it's our own fault---we can't compete.

The manufacturers can cry "foul" all they want - what demand is there for these cars? How many cars does GM or Ford export to Australia? To Germany? This is simply a red herring, not a critical issue for these companies.

GM and Ford have found ways to sell cars in China, another highly restrictive market. The assemble them THERE, with LOCAL partners.

If Koreans were rioting the the streets for the highly coveted Malibu or a Buick Lucerne, I'm sure GM could get GM Daewoo to deliver those models.

To me, this is like trying to sell sand to the Arabs.
