Lawmaker: Toyota Withheld Crash Lawsuit Evidence House lawmaker says Toyota documents show automaker withheld evidence in crash lawsuits A House lawmaker says internal Toyota documents show the automaker deliberately withheld key vehicle design and testing evidence in lawsuits filed by Toyota drivers injured in crashes. House oversight committee chairman Edolphus Towns says Toyota tried to shield its testing data on potential problems with Toyota vehicles and settled many lawsuits to avoid disclosing the information. Towns says the data was known as the "Books of Knowledge." The committee learned about it from records it subpoenaed from a former top Toyota liability lawyer who is now suing the company over his dismissal..... |

Judged: 3 2 1 When the "Free Market" includes 3 dollar an hour labor at the China GM, Ford and Chrysler factories what does this do to the Auto Industry and to the auto worker in the US? |

Judged: 1 Cant blame cheap labor on the free market, only the people who are willing to work for so little are to blame. |

It makes jobs and business go over seas. Which is an unfortunate part of the free market that few like to admit and/or talk about. But as far as my post I was being sarcastic. The leadership of many of those southern states including W.Va were touting the free market as the cause of Big-3/UAW failures and conversely the reason for Japanese automakers success. I find it ironic that things have gone bad for a month of so in these Toyota areas of the south and they caravan to Washington DC to plead their cases. But when Big-3/UAW leadership did the same they said; "let them fail"!!! "Let the free market work its self out." It funny......I don't hear too much of that gobbledygook any more. Now all of a sudden all of these "smaller government". "I don't want the Gov. solving all of my problems" folks have changed their tunes. Oh what a difference a day makes.... |

FredUAW,
I agree with several of your points. The free market,NAFTA, and the ability for corprate america to outsource labor and manufacturing to 3rd world countries have reduced the middle class, and has set the trend for corprate greed in the US. As a non union worker, I have to disagree with your statement that we wanted the Big Three to fail. I personally wanted and campained to unionize Toyota for many years, but due to the local populations experiences with other unions, it is a hard sell. We at Toyota would not have the pay or benifits we have if it were not for the efforts of the UAW, and all that they fought for in the past. The bad thing is that the trend in the US is th reduce pay, benefits, and corprate responsibility to its' employees, and it is going to get worse befor it gets better. You can see that by the attitudes of the previous posts, noone cares, as long as they can buy a big screen TV at Walmart for $200.00. I personally see houses taking two generations to pay off, as in Japan, and it is coming sooner than everyone thinks. As far as Toyota's issues currently, it is just thier time in the barrel. GM had it with the flamable fuel tanks on pick up trucks, Ford had the Pinto issue, and Explorer roll over. Now it is Toyotas turn to be spot lighted. I am not suggesting that the issue is not serious, it is very serious. I am just saying that all corporations tend to wait until it is too late to deal with issues, it costs more to be proactive. As far as politics, I say fire all the senitors and represenitives, put a one term, two year limit on their employment. Abolish all forms of lobbying, eliminate corprate sponsership in the elections, and maybe we can have a gorernment that works. |

The difference between me and other ppl on the Union side is that I do not see this issue as a Union vs non-Union type of thing. The ppl of the extremes are guilty of such thoughts but not me. Although there were individuals that echoed that sentiment it was the leadership of those states that came out guns blazing against the Big-3/UAW. "The leadership of many of those southern states including W.Va were touting the free market as the cause of Big-3/UAW failures and conversely the reason for Japanese automakers success." Where the rubber hits the pavement Union and non-Union workers are very much alike. When the company screws up its always the working men and women that ultimately end up paying for it. I take NO joy in knowing that Toyota line workers are going to get scerwed as a result of this mess. As much as I enjoy the iorny of Toyota being in the "hot seat" for the first time, as well as shedding light on the obvious hypocrisy that the leadership of these states are demonstraighting. I hate the fact that ppl like yourself will be the fall guys. |

Judged: 2 1 1 I prefer not to drive anything that is union made. That is because of their support for Obama in the past election. I will never buy a union made car again. |

Judged: 4 1 1 IMO, our current president is owned by the unions. His administration will work to destroy any competition for the unions and Toyota is one of the biggest threats to the UAW. Toyota first, Nissan next. |

Maybe, but we're $12 trillion in debt most of it to Communist China. You, me, Obama....all of us are owned by China. Partisan politics to the side that's the real threat! So are you agenda driven or reality driven? |

Why do you think ALL union members voted for or supported Obama? A lot didn't. |
