The story is all over the place and compares a lot of apples to oranges. The Prius contiunes to dominate the hybrid market in Japan, the U.S. and worldwide. All you have to do is look at the over all numbers sold and compare to the #2 hybrid sold worldwide which is what again????

Gas prices will affect consumer demand for hybrids now and in the future. With more electric and hybrid models coming on the market Prius will lose some of its market share. They will likely need to offer some incentives. So will the others.

Oh and I know you are going to mention that with tax incentives the price will come down and sure it will, but it'll still be $33,000 and that price will only last until it hits that magical number where it no longer qualifies for an incentive. The Prius will not be going away. It will continue to maintain it's dominance in they hybrid field for quite sometime whether you think so or not. The Prius with the signature wedge shape has proven to be an agent of change and a catalyst for innovative ideas. Every automaker has used the Prius as the industry benchmark for a hybrid car. When it came out in the U.S. in 2000 it was overshadowed by the hit of the NA Int'l Auto show the Hummer H2 and we all know what happened to that line of vehicles (bye, bye H2). Thankfully Toyota (unlike GM) had the foresight, even when gas prices were well below $2, to invest and develop the Prius. "It's hard to say what would have happened, had there been no Prius in the U.S., but in the 10 years since the car has been available, significant benefits have accrued. Nearly 900,000 people who chose to drive a Toyota Prius versus the average car have prevented an estimated nine million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, conserved approximately 650 million gallons of gas, and saved an estimated 1.5 billion of their hard-earned dollars." With each generation, the Prius has received a slightly larger engine while rasising its city and highway MPG rating. Today, the Prius has become a mainstream vehicle. It is the third-best selling car in the Toyota line, and an icon for the company. Owner loyalty figures are among the highest in the automotive industry. So JJ as you continue to show that no matter how much you distort the truth, the people have spoken and they continue to buy the Prius at an average rate of 15,000 a month. Numbers that GM wish they could achieve in the hybrid market.
