Full story: phatduckk on Topix.net

I really hate the Comcast DVR. I had DirectTv Tivo 1/2 a year ago and it was glorious.

ok, here's what i just don't get. tivo existed before comcast dvr, right?! why didn't they just COPY tivo?! i mean... it's so unequivocally awesome. but instead of being like "hm, maybe we should do all this stuff that users can't stop raving about", they decide to do their own thing and make it 100 times worse?

strange.

Because Tivo has patents on all of their features.

ok ... more more reason i hate the comcast DVR (aka Commie - ya i made that up myself).

reason # 4,356)
i used the "find a show by name" thing yesterday to set a "season pass" for 24 ... well, it showed me a billion things to record but none of 'em was 24. WTF!!!???!!! i didnt bother searching for "twenty four". mental note: do that when i get home.

but really? does the damn thing really have no clue about 24?

i dunno who's fault this is but im gonna continue to blame Commie for everything and anything wrong with my TV because ... well, cuz it sucks

This person obviously doesn't have a Comcast DVR. It's funny this is the only one not complaining. I have experienced ALL the problems listed in the original posts. I have to "deal" with it for now until i have direct line of site to get satelite.

more commie tales ...

a few days ago commie went crazy. i hit channel up: error "cant delete file while its in use". WTF???

ok - maybe something's wrong - ill watch something i already recorded. err, no! "cant delete file while its in use". again, WTF???

so i turn the pink bastard off ... same shiz. hit channel up, down, whatever "cant delete file while its in use".

ok ... again - ill try watching something I already had recorded cuz maybe the on/off thing helped that. well, kinda, but no matter what it would start at the end of the show with only 10 seconds left. press rewind then BAM "cant delete file while its in use". LoL

but alas - my war with commie will end soon. im moving and the new place has directv ready to rock with an HD Tivo. i dont care that i had to pay $400 for the HD Tivo DVR - at least i know it will work

I heard a rumor that comcast has a licensing deal with TIVO and will begin offering TIVO as an upgrade for an extra $10 a month +/-.
I hope to hell that is true. I had a TIVO for several years in LA and you are right there is no comparison between the technologies. An extra $10 a month would be totally worth it.
true that

I used to have a Time-Warner DVR. There were a few things I didn't like about it, but ConCast has made it into a cherished memory. The interface is terrible on every level.

I've had Tivo for about a month now and I LOVE it, then my roommate decided we needed Digital Cable. We got it set up yesterday, she got a DVR box and I'm sticking with my Tivo with the cable box connected to it. So far I havn't had one of my season passes record using the cable box connection (I have a dual tuner Tivo which allows me to have it connected to the cable box AND directy to the cable line to get the "basic" cannels I get in without the box.)

Now, my roommate hasn't told me she's had any problemes yet and she's been using it almost constantly since she got it. I on the other hand notice changing channels is SLOW (I use the Tivo to change channels which uses a serial connector to the back of the cable box, but the commie remote is just as slow) when using the digital cable.

My biggest problem is if I want to use any of the "On Demand" crap I have to use the commie remote instead of the much more comfortable Tivo remote. What is realy silly is they gave me the remote for the DVR version of the cable box (it does work on all types of the cable boxes) with all it's nifty DVR specific buttons that give me errors if I press them because they apparently only send signals to the cable box and the cable box decides "you don't have this service" and tells me so... So, why is it they have a programing code for Tivo's in it's "universal" code list and I can't do anything with the tivo when programmed with it?

I've had Tivo for a couple of years and love it. However, I just upgraded my system to HD. I cannont believe how great HD is. Like listening to CDs for the first time and then trying to compare it to a cassette tape. But wait..... The HD TiVo unit is going to cost EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!! The folks over at Tivo must have gone stone insane. HD is the future and they're setting themselves up to be BetaMAX. I've got the dual tuner Motorola from Comcast and I'm pretty happy with it. Apparently, they've worked out a few of the bugs. It responds very quickly and the search features use a virtual keyboard just like Tivo. The only thing it doesn't do is tell me what shows it thinks I should like (TiVo was ALWAYS way off!). I'll gladly trade that for on demand and HD.
Yeah, the remote sucks. I'm going to get a Logitech Harmony remote and program it to work with everything. The base model is about $80 and is a clone of the Tivo Remote.

You all must be mentally deficient (no offense). I've had both a DirectTV tivo and now my Comcast dual-tuner DVR. Screw that whole touchy-feely Tivo interface and the random recording of crap I don't need. I've literally had 0 problems with my DVR that I couldn't trace back to operator error. Plus, now that I just bought a 50" plasma... the built-in HD is sweet.

My Comcast DVR just died. Anytime I try to pause/rewind or view recorded shows I get nothing but a black screen. The only way to be able to watch regular tv is to switch channels then go back. I can at this point only watch live TV. I Agree Comcast SUCKS and so does their DVR.

Comcast has a monopoly on the cable unless you want to switch to satellite. What a headache Comcast is to deal with. PLease come back Time Warner I am sorry I complained. I can't believe that comcast could actually be worse and charge so much more. A long time customer of Time Warner forced into Comcast HELP!!!!
