BROWARD...Home of the Wal-Mart on every corner, and fat chicks in $3 flip-flops.

Who needs pricey stores with this clientele?

Maybe it's me, but I just can't muster up sympathy for someone who may not have anything to do all day besides shop at expensive stores. We should all be so inconvenienced...

Also, I don't have sympathy who still has the money to shop at these places after paying for all that gas to get there.

Who cares. Who in the world wants to spend $9k on a piece of luggage. $400 on a shirt that looks like it came from walmart. Bye Bye Sacs. The wealthy are now few and far between. Now there is only ultra wealthy, those with a couple extra bucks in their pocket, and those in foreclosure. Thanks Bush.

Thanks to the demographics in Broward, we have to go elsewhere to shop. Ridiculous. They ruin everything.

Sad for Galleria - too bad the individuals making the "jeaslous" remarks don't realize how sad it is for the people that will lose their jobs (ones that have worked at Saks for years and years) and without the upscale stores in a malls fewer come to the mall thus making the "regular" stores also have to close down - more unemployment! The fancy name stores make a mall seem more attractive even if the consumer is not shopping there. It is like the people that live in a tourist town that complain about traffic! Without the tourist many would not even be able to afford gas to go around the block!
Thanks for more bad news

Well, once again the Sun-sentinel is finding more bad news to report on concerning the economy in Broward. Thanks guys for using your massive influence to create a self fullfilling prophesy: The economy's downfall. You can almost hear the gleeful squeals of delight.

Hood Rats drive away shoppers and retailers...just look at the West Palm Beach Mall. The Boynton Beach Mall has had their share and I suppose Wellington is next. Can't have anything nice in South Florida

Do any of you even shop at chanel or gucci? Because I sure don't.

Who in their right mind would pay $500 for a shirt?? That money could feed a town in Africa and cloth children in an orphanage in cambodia.

what this world has come to...

First, I work in one of the upscale outlet stores at the Colonades at Sawgrass; they aren't hurting for business by any means.
Second, People who can't imagine spending more money on higher quality items aren't shoppers that these companies target anyways.
Lastly, is it just me or does the Sentinel have an agenda out against the economy? Even though SoFlo has always been a huge business community that has been immune from a lot of the problems thanks to South American tourists?

yeah, these people are just like all of the weather forecasters that drove down the housing market with their speculation.

Outlet stores do not count as it's mostly irregulars, crappy stuff that couldn't sell, damaged goods and things specifically made to sell at the outlets that they don't sell in the regular stores. Can't have anything nice and keep it nice in Broward. Third world area and going DOWNHILL quickly.

Say again? The weather forecasters are the ones who drove the housing market down by speculating on the weather?! New one to me. Here I thought the speculators who drove the housing market down were all those wanna be Trumps who bought up houses that were overpriced to begin with, using no money down and variable rate mortgages.

They slapped a coat of paint on and tacked on another $100,000 to the price when trying to flip it. Buyers finally either got wise to overvalued houses, or bankers finally stopped writing crap loans - and the bottom fell out of the overheated housing market.

But you say it was weather forecasters. You sure you aren't just funnin' us, son?

With the average wages in broward county $7.50 cents per hour, it is no wonder this is happening.

Probably the best assessment of the article yet. What will be news is how the stores in Boca are doing after the quarterly sales reports are posted.

Then we can see who responded to the higher gas and food prices by cutting out trips to high-end stores. If these stores aren't taking hits, it would be worth printing.
