I just bought the $300 gift card from Cub yesterday. They don't require any proof that you're using your rebate to pay for it, or that you even got a rebate. J(Just handed them my check card.) Another nice thing about it is, I got 30cents a gallon off gas (up to 12) when I bought the card, then another 12cents when I bought $120 groceries with the card. So yesterday, I got $30 of free groceries by buying the gift card, saved $27 in coupons and sales, plus got $5 off filling my tank.

Well, MY stimulus check is the Federal Government's way of paying me back for the damage done to my car when I hit a snow-covered pothole in that non-plowing cesspool of a city called St. Paul. My check just went into the bank to replace the money I had to take out (at an ever diminishing interest rate--over 3% in the last 6 months) to repair my car and make it driveable again.

I just spent over $300 at Cub yesterday. I had no idea that I could bring in proof of my deposit and get $30 off. I don't get any mailings from them, like coupon books, etc.. Will they take my receipt from yesterday and let me get my gift card after the fact? I don't tend to carry my rebate receipt with me.

Depends on who you get them from. They don't expire, per se. However, the legislature was supposed to pass a law making it illegal for them to deduct money from the balance for every month they go unused.

"Underbanked" is that the politically correct term for "does not qualify" or "rejected due to previous questionable banking activities"

I went to Rainbow/Roundy's in Woodbury with my "stimulus" rebate notice from the IRS and they REFUSED to accept it. I was told I had to bring in my bank statement for proof. I told them I was going to CUB.

Why don't you make a phone call and find out instead of expecting it to be done for you. Sheesh...

Whoa. You buy a $330 giftcard for $300. You essentially get $30.

I had the exact same experience at Cub as Queen Mama. The customer service worker didn't know how to do it so as I read the manual to her, we discovered that you need ZERO PROOF of a rebate check. You just need 300, 600, or 1200 dollars. We are going to go buy a few of these since we plan on eating over the next 6 months.

"It's unfair, it's unfair" geez - these companies can do whatever they want. I will have to assume that these responses were from 11 year old kids. I would hope adults realize we have not totally converted to communism yet (getting pretty close though).
