1 1. Selection of search firm. Why was this firm chosen? Does it have ties to powerful persons in Hawaii? Does it have an agenda? by selecting it, did that mean that only certain candidates would receive serious consideration? Why, out of 500 candidates and a so called national search would one with almost no knowledge of Hawaii and one with a serious ethical blemish on her record -- there was no one better out of 500 candidates? 2. It must be evident to the Board of Regents that Greenwood's selection will be highly unpopular -- but it continues to push on. If the search firm does have political connections in Hawaii, are those persons that powerful? 3. Does the PR firm selected by the BOR chair for damage control have connections with the search firm and the politician leaning on the BOR? Does the PR firm have connections with Star Bulletin directors? Did this "endorsement" story result from efforts by that PR firm? |

1 What worries me is her extremely poor lack of judgement. How can a person who has so much education make such a HUGE error? Any person with half a brain knows the term "conflict of interest". You don't participate in the hiring of a friend when you work for a public institution. Then again, that kind of activity goes on everyday in Hawaii, so I guess she'll fit right in. |

2 good points. Dobelle got pushed on the UH by Waltah Dodds and Dan Inourye and it proved to be a disaster. No one checked his very bad record on the maianland before he came here. It is easy to get cromies to praise a candidate. Careerists do that all the time. Everyone is CYA in higher education. It is always hard to get at the real truth. |

At the University when there are not a sufficient "pool" of candidates for a position, the position is re-advertised to get a larger pool of candidates...why should the President's position be any different.
Definitely a double standard. Remember, Milton Holt was a rising star that crashed and burned... |

1 Her $380,000 salary was nearly $100,000 more than her predecessor and the UC Regents were not told about a $125,000 relocation incentive payment -- details that came out in a series of San Francisco Chronicle stories investigating compensation for top university officials. Here you have a obese person who can't even live up to the standards of her nutritional scientific training, let alone try to sneak under, by not reporting her $125,000.000 relocation payment? What else is she HIDING, besides this and the investigation for "conflicts of interests" by her university back home? Or she has already made some "under the table" deals with that crook HGEA former Union official pushing for her selection? The whole process STINKS to high heaven, selecting Greenwood is like going to the rubbish pile and dusting off some rusted corroded relic to place into the highest office at UH....? Throw it back in the pile heap and find another pool of applicants! |

1 Dodds has a history of placing losers in good jobs. Look at Tim Johns at Bishop Museum. What a joke. |

1 Unfortunately, this is a character flaw that won't ever get fixed because this person will always select loyal friends over qualified subjects. |

Maybe they should do away with the position of UH president. We already have an extremely bloated UH administration. Instead, use rotating "acting" presidents. Can't be any worse than the clowns like Dobelle we've had in the past. One more fat cat ain't gonna help. The unused salary could be used to fund a dozen new faculty positions--something we need due to soaring enrollment.

1 "Harsh" would been the UC firing her and denying her any job in her profession. "Prudent" is not giving someone $500,000 per year and the chance to do it again. "Common sense" is not creating a situation at UH in which any one not getting a promotion in the future can sue because they weren't as close to Greenwood as other applicants. "Hiring a friend" is not the same as hiring a partner, business or otherwise. "Hostile workplace" is something that Greenwood created when she hired her partner and denied other applicants. A beginner civil rights attorney could (and possibly did) sue the UC system for millions over a bonehead play like that. Those who have been found by courts to have created "hostile workplaces" are not limited to white, straight men hitting on interns (one famous one did get away). They include women, persons of color and of all sexual orientations. "HUGE LAWSUIT" is what would happen if the UH, knowing of her track record, hires Greenwood and she does it again. Those passed over for promotion or hiring will be able to retire in comfort. Greenwood made choices. They were mistakes. They also have consequences. She has a problem. It shouldn't become the taxpayers of Hawaii's problem. |

Wow, let us hire a nepotist as our next leader of higher education in Hawaii! What a wonderfully high bar to set, inspiring young students from around the island to be the best they can be!

I think Tim Johns has done a good job at Bishop Museum. How can anyone run a place and make everyone happy when you're struggling just to survive?
As for MC Hammer Here, you gotta be kiddin' me. They don't run rising stars out of town. |
