i just moved to anchorage and i can't get a signal and it sucks just wondering if anyone knows why it doesn't work up here
|
|
the earth is eclipsing the satellite and there are no repeaters
|

have you looked to the south and east? Those things are called mountians.... I'm waiting for the repeater towers... They should be going in pretty soon? I have all the gear for sirus in my closet from when I was stationed in Montana. It worked awesomely down there.

i'm not sure if this helps but they have a signal finder of sorts in their site, check it out at http://fmchannel.sirius.com/
alternately, they also have deals going on with their newer models (the stiletto 2 being my favorite) at http://www.sirius.com/freeradio |

sorry dan_o,
the permit for the repeaters went to the "public comment" stage. NAB threw a fit because they know they are being out-performed and they refuse to improve. now we don't get sirius until another satellite goes up or sirius spends some dough on a better legal team (= never). |

Anchorage truly deserves Sirius. I am an old Alaskan from the forties, transplanted to Arizona,(which is also disconnected from the rest of the country by Republican stupidity). If it wasn't for Sirius Radio I couldn't stand it here. Sirius brings the real world in! Thank God! I really hope Alaska gets those repeaters soon. Sirius's 3 classical channels, plus a hundred others make life SO MUCH better. Thank you Sirius, and keep up the good fight for Alaska !

I really agree with Ernie. Anchorage dosen't know what it's missing until it gets Sirius Satellite Radio!!!! I spent years on tugs in the Bering Sea. Now living in Tacoma Wa. Anchorage has a great surprise in store when it finds out about Sirius. Tell the powers that be to build those repeaters SOON!

Every hour or so I get signal on a few channels in my car..of cousre they only last a few seconds.
Maybe it's becasue the earth wobbles.. |

Hi Did you ever get Sirius up and working here in Eagle River..Dave Mochas@mtaonline.net |

Please tell me Sirius works in Anchorage, please...

Sirius doesnt really work well in alaska, not saying it doesn't work at all, the reception is at best.. spotty.
A few years ago I bought a Kenwood Sirius unit in hopes I could use it even though they told me "will not work in alaska" I tried it anyways, well I got it to work at times, usually the early morning." When I was rolling around the anchorage metro area But most of the time it would be searching for signal. There are a few shining moments. When I did a roadtrip from seattle to anchorage, in 2008 The unit worked till we started getting closer to anchorage, I blame the mountains for this. Oddly enough if you are in the interior of alaska, it should work for you. Southcentral AK is kinda blocked by the terrain, from what I have observed. Now a friend of mine has a sat radio and he uses it on the north slope, and he claims that he gets service, but it is limited. |

I get some channels in my car when I'm on the new seward highway here in anchorage, at least when i'm on the "higher" parts of the road and not the valleys...

Looks like we may officially get Siruis XM!

I have tested both, sirius and XM receivers in Wasilla and I am currently using one XM every day. My XM receiver is hooked to small dish antenna and pointed to west satellite and I get 2 of 3 bars of signal. In my truck is 12 inch marine XM antenna and it can pick XM signal very good on Wasilla area and were ever there is no mountains or trees on the way. Sirius satellites rotate on southern sky so forget it, don't waste your time. It will not work. Since now Sirius and XM are one company I look forward for Anchorage repeater so I could use my receiver in truck.

I Can get service when I'm in west anchorage, but the closer you get to the mountains, the worse the signal gets. Still waiting on those repeaters.

If you face to the south east signal can come it but it maybe tricky.. I have 2 radios and receive service just fine as i am in South Anchorage, but around town it maybe spotty.
It would of been great to get terr towers here in Anchorage if it happens it happens. |

I have the iPhone Sirius app and it streams via Bluetooth to my car stereo. Works great if you have both. Now I can get Sirius where I have cell coverage. I havent gone out of town yet so am not sure if works in mire remote areas. Should find out soon.

Have a app in my at&t Android too. Works just fine in Wasilla. |

Were in anchorage now and have had NO signal since leaving Haines. Why am I paying for this? Send a note to Dirius and have gotten NO response - just like my signal
