Why not any new on Crestor? It was released today that it showed excellent results in the statin class. I guess good news is not important.

The point is vytorin works at lowering cholesterol and it does it well. So far the studies do not show that the increased lowering of cholesterol and triglycerides lead to a reduction of heart attacks. But this still does not deny that vytorin lowers cholesterol effectively. What is missed is that it should be a secondary or tertiary drug at the moment for those whose statins and lopid do not work effectively on or have side effects. Currently, with its increased expense with no apparent increased benefit, it should not be a first response drug. Let's read and understand the facts correctly before making unwise decisions. Lowering cholesterol anyway possible is simply a good thing and we yet may find that it does lower heart attacks over the other drugs or not. And yes the FDA should be more circumspect and less political in its findings. One of the newer studies coming out will show that 5 bananas and 2 cups of flax seed per day will lower cholesterol 25 points in 75% of the population.

Has any independent non drug company studies ever proved that cholesterol causes heart attacks. The drug companis are making billions off the cholesterol/heart attack premise, but it may be a money making myth.

The drug companis are making billions off the cholesterol/heart attack premise, but it may be a money making myth. Don't be so stupid. There is a lot of documentation and research to support that cholesterol can lead to many forms of heart disease. The amount you spend annually on a statin is no where near the cost of being hospitalized. So if the pharmaceutical research companies do make billions, it is insignificant to what the alternative is.

Question for me is, since Vytorin=Zocor and Zetia, why did it do worse re the plaque size than Zocor alone? Does this show poor study design, or a deliterious effect of Zetia?
