Seattle's 'Official' LGBT Group Refuses to Meet Gay Israelis

Full story: EDGE

Seattle's LGBT Commission, which represents the gay community to the city's government, recently canceled a meeting with a delegation of gay Israeli leaders because some members of the LGBT community accused Israel of treating Palestinians poorly, the Seattle Times reported.

And the strident voice of a tiny and foolish bunch of gays brings things to a halt yet again. This is where the PC thing go overboard.

Do these idiots imagine the gays they were supposed to meet were in any way responsible for Israel's treatment of the Palestinians?

Gays don't want our community to be tarbrushed for the sins of a small group of our members, so why do these morons feel it's okay to do the same to others? Especially GAY others?

It's people like this that have kept the GLBT movement from churning ahead at full speed. They were disruptive voices in 1969 thru 1972 when we were first getting things rolling, and they're doing the same thing now, all these years later.

Someone needs to shut them up.

Guess they don't like the pinkwashing of virtual apartheid.

The same issue was brewing in NYC when someone (M. Lucas) got a pro Palestinian meeting at the glbt center canceled.

The same issue is brewing in Philly at the Equality Forum which has named Israel its country of focus for this year's events.

The academic and artistic communities in the US are ramping up a boycott of Israel - which has turned monstrously right in the past decade or so. Including culturally.

And you know that for a fact? Were the Palestinians also represented in that delegation? If not, the gay Israelis may be contributing to the problem, even if it's not their fault.

During the Apartheid years in South Africa many gays (and other minorities) suffered a similar fate under the sanctions, but until the population at large put forth a unified effort to bring Apartheid to its knees it could not be business as usual for any of them.

Under such circumstances we cannot pick and choose whom we're going to boycott -- it has to be everyone, in order to force a change. I'm pretty sure gay Iranians also suffer under the present sanctions against Iran.

Unless you're not in fact opposed to Israel's apartheid policies ... but that's another debate for another day.

Daily Horoscope for June 17

Scorpio

This is a brilliant day to put your brain to good use. You'll come up with some really great ideas if you think outside the square. Don't feel you have to follow in other people's footsteps if you'd rather break out in a completely different direction. It's a day for doing your own thing and thinking your own thoughts, and for trusting that you're on the right track.
