Greater sea level rise likely, study warns

Full story: MSNBC

A new study using fossils and sediment from 125,000 years ago says the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are likely to melt faster, raising sea levels more than earlier predicted.

The information laden, but education lagging, alleged threatener, alleged stalker denier brian_g (of the pukey proud racist pig laden denier brian_g 'ganghood'), disputes the NASA findings. Of his several airline(?) flights, brian_g reports that Greenland looks like it did the first time he flew over it.

Yes, we have another denier saying that NASA isn't reporting right, because brian_g saw it with his own lazer sharp eyes (not with his eyelids covering his eyeballs for sure, folks)........from 6 miles high in the sky.......brian_g can tell.....he says.........

Partitioning Recent Greenland Mass Loss
Michiel van den Broeke,1,* Jonathan Bamber,2 Janneke Ettema,1 Eric Rignot,3,4 Ernst Schrama,5 Willem Jan van de Berg,1 Erik van Meijgaard,6 Isabella Velicogna,3,4 Bert Wouters5,6

Mass budget calculations, validated with satellite gravity observations [from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites], enable us to quantify the individual components of recent Greenland mass loss. The total 2000–2008 mass loss of ~1500 gigatons, equivalent to 0.46 millimeters per year of global sea level rise, is equally split between surface processes (runoff and precipitation) and ice dynamics. Without the moderating effects of increased snowfall and refreezing, post-1996 Greenland ice sheet mass losses would have been 100% higher. Since 2006, high summer melt rates have increased Greenland ice sheet mass loss to 273 gigatons per year (0.75 millimeters per year of equivalent sea level rise). The seasonal cycle in surface mass balance fully accounts for detrended GRACE mass variations, confirming insignificant subannual variation in ice sheet discharge.

But of course delusional deniers know better than the actual scientists making the studies. There are even deniers that claim Greenland is gaining mass!(without evidence of course) These guys are effectively brainwashed.

There is still far more ice covering Greenland than when the Vikings settled and farmed it.
The little ice age froze the Vikings out of Greenland ... The little ice age ended in the early 1800s ... when New York harbor and the Hudson river last froze solid.
If man caused the earth to warm since then ... GOOD JOB! We are much better off with a slightly warmer climate. Now ... get out there and drive those SUVs!

More evidence that the costs of climate cooking will far exceed forecasts, yet the brainwashed ignorant continue to grasp for excuses and deny the science. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for our species.

It is all a fraud

I love this "and fast" alarm peddling part
"From Alaska to the snowy peaks of the Andes the world is heating up right now, and fast. Globally, the temperature is up 1°F (.5°C) over the past century,"
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0409/fe...

The best guess average temp of the earth is 59 F. thus the sun and earth's core warms the planet 514 degrees F from the space temp of MINUS 455 F

The GW peddlers would like us to believe that after the sun warms this planet 514F then a 1 degree F variation from this 514F is a crisis caused by man.

The GW peddlers know full well that the science is phony and it is a power and money grab con that is really underway.

"No matter if the science is all phony, there [are] collateral environmental benefits...climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world."

Look at the graphs for sea level BETWEEN ice ages. We are 30' LOWER than average.

Temp? We are 2degC LOWER than average.

Believe the "global warming" crap if you want to.

Sure climate and sea level have varied before, but now we are CREATING a world of droughts, famines, superstorms and rising seas, at a cost of millions of lives and hundreds of trillions of dollars. If you like the idea of the next twenty generations paying ruinous taxes in a police state, you'll love global warming.

The lefty loon AGW crisis peddlers have declared that man has created rising seas, wind, rain and other weather,

let it be written. It shall be so. Teach it to all in the reeducation camps.

Nothing new in this article. Yes it is possible for the greenland ice to melt, it has done so before, no reason to believe that it won't do it again.

And you know what? 125,000 years ago during the eemian, the ice melted without any SUVs.

And there were no SUvs or coal fired electirc plants when the ice melted enough during the MWP to allow settlement of greenland. During this time, inhabitants were able to grow crops and raise farm animals. Over time as the temps dropped, the diet of greenland inhabitants went from veggies, grains and meats to almost exclusively marine. The LIA had arrived.

Another what could, might, can, possible, if, maybe, article.

Remember, if it could get hot, it might also get cold. It's done that before as well.

You do know that the sea level rise is the same rate it has been since the end of the last Ice age right?

I also can't recall to many hummers driving around 20~15 k ago when the Mile thick ice flows that covered the planet above the 33nlat & 27slat raised sea levels 400~600 feet .....

We have nothing to do with it... Blame mean old mister sun for your woos... But that aside... Are you asking that we return to 1800 technology... You know live off the land, grow your own food, raise horses and ride them to the store for salt and flour... Sit around the wood burner stove in the light of bees wax candles and such...

Because if you are ... You first...

You do actually understand that if we do all the measures possible to reduce CO2 emissions But You still want a Computer, TV, Microwave, tiny wind up car, a house that meets safety code, the occasional big mac and a 1000 other sundry items that you enjoy every day, and We All do the same, total CO2 reduction would be around .02%... It might be worth considering how long the Vikings lived in Greenland, which was approximately 500 years before climate change forced them to leave.
Something alarmists might find well worth considering when discussing the future of current climate change.
