Well I think the next Midway is Grand Forks (on a good note.) Midway was a future mill that was brought down by forces unknown. I think if Grand Forks mill was made to specs like Midway it will employ people for years and I will tell you why. The diameter of all the logs in the boundary area are always getting smaller. I hope that Interfor can see this, as Pope & Talbot did, when they were a Fortune 500 company. If Interfor would get, as Midway had, a couple of high preformance chip-n-saws to take care of the smaller logs and keep the head rig for the crooked fir logs and anything else that had to be processed we would have the top of the line mill and leave the rest to Castlegar. Just my thoughts.

Sounds crazy, but i highly doubt they'll keep shut down. They had a $1.1 mill loss in the first quarter and weren't too pleased with that. Eventually they will run, just have to straighten up pnt's mess, figure things out. theres a reason they only had $1.1 mill loss while other companies had much much more...they ran.. just smartly. I think they are just doing constructive planning for the longevity of both GF and C mills. Don't think they want the same thing to happen to them as did pnt...makes good business sense

WESTAR REINCARNATED

Actually, it's less than 18 as the 2nd month is just about done. Also as months drag on, fixed costs go down,(no benefits to pay et al). And, salaries for "security staff" have been reduced thru terminations and rollbacks. With a lean head office,(not like the Vatican in Portland), I would expect Westfor's curtailment bill to be substantially less than the old boss's. And.....no they don't eat very well which is why they can afford this type of decision. Sandy used to get bullied a lot in school and now he's gettin' even!!

I have a feeling this poll is going to get a lot more action.

I'm not so sure and/or agree Castlegar will be the next Midway. As far as i see it, Castlegar has one of the most efficient and cost effective way of getting raw logs via tug via waterway from their TFL, be it a diverse and bug infestation free TFL to boot. They have a direct line to the neighboring pulp mill Zelsoff celgar to supply chips to whom I also heard is interested in offering much more for the chips. I also have heard Castlegar very seldom loses money, and if they do, very little compared to others. HOWEVER...... when its all said and done, we can all speculate and guess what might happen, we can all sit here and defend our own mills....but its interfors final word....we need to maybe join together castlegar and grand forks....and prove we both are viable mills ready to make things work for everyone....millworkers and employer...give us work..we work hard...Employer make money...employer pay us fair...everyone happy...simple equation...no chance EITHER mill becoming another Midway
