Campbell shuffles cabinet ahead of May 2009 election

B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell is making some major changes to his cabinet as he prepares for an election less than a year away.

Campbell is also shuffling some of the current cabinet ministers. Colin Hansen returns to his former position as finance minister, replacing the outgoing Carole Taylor, and Pat Bell is the new forests minister, leaving the agriculture post.

Is this political posturing by the Liberals to placate a town crushed by the forestry downturn?

Or is this the Liberals realizing that their leadership is so out of touch with the forest industry and rural BC in general?

Both. Coleman was not held in high regard by most forest industry execs or by most within his own forests ministry. This move was necessary, but probably not going to result in any meaningful change.
