Philip Morris Int'l buys rights to nicotine system

Sounds about right. Tobacco companies have a vested interest in keeping the public focused on products that continue to provide nicotine, leaving it up to the addicted consumer to decide whether to reduce intake or not.

First, if the addict is simply changing the source of the nicotine, the addiction will remain and the addict may return to cigarettes as a more familiar thing to do.

Then, so long as they are consuming nicotine, tobacco is being purchased. There is just no other commercially viable source for nicotine.

Most smokers like the flavor/taste of tobacco tars. It's tars that cause the most harm in lungs.
