Yep The day the jelly fish approved the contract(which pretty much eliminated work rules) Mark McClain and Steanland "chatted" and are in Washington together . They will only protect the pension until we are out of bankruptcy. Where the will money go-ask Delta! We are the only Airline left with the "promise" of a pension. It will not be cost effective to have our labor cost more. Mark and Dougie are buddies. Mark brain washed the pilot group with the promise of the pension. I was harassed by other pilots to vote yes. I mean they met me at the plane the day before the contract was approved and they told me I had a couple of hours to change my vote.Yep I'm gone an average of 24 days a month now(I do have 11 years seniority) for what it is worth. OH and we are selling 20 of our DC 10's. That should cause a little problem don't you think. Management and MM cannot be trusted. They are one in the same.Oh and the support folks a ALPA are on strike. They refused their contract. Let's see 3.5% pay raises a year. Medical is completely paid for. 35 hour work week. If you make less tham $59,000 a year they reinburse you $4500 in FICA taxes(just like a management deal)I'm getting 1% a year for 7 years . Pay more for medical, my deductables are up..I work alot more than 35 hours a week. Think someone will pay my taxes.?? Capt I would loke to see us all geta pension BUT I don't believe that is the reality. They still have Bird Flu to use as another excuse for lack of profits.

Stock Dude wrote: <quoted text> Unfortunately the future for the AMFA mechanics will be bleak baring any major incidents. So far NWA mgmt. can claim that after months and months running the airline without AMFA mechanics the airline is still maintaining safe aircraft as demonstrated by the pilots who fly them everyday and would not fly the aircraft if they were not safe and no major incident has occured. So unless the scabs all go away, it'll be tough going. Its good the pilots are so happy with the replacement worker scabs because they are stuck with them, however the pilots that I know of tell a different story as do the F/A's but if they are comfortable enough to fly them well its not my life on the line........go for it!

Actually, that 'darkness' line was written in order to let my good friend in that post know that it's none of his business what I do for a living and maybe get his blood pressure up a little for continuing to ask. Sorry you fell for it because it wasn't aimed at you. Were you a NWA stock holder? Why did you hang onto the shares?

It is not buisness as usual by a far cry. Too many broken airplanes, robed parts and confused scabs.31% more maint cost now that we fly fewer airplanes and are paying out the wazoo to these gypsy subcontractors and goofy scabs. Who ever thought of replaceing our aircraft mechanics needs to be taken out in handcuffs and leg-irons.

Just wondering because of all the comments saying everything is fine at Northwest otherwise the pilots wouldn't be flying unsafe planes. Why don't the pilots comment on this issue?

Sara, what you desire is trend information, which is not a reportable offense IAW the FAR's. Each aircraft has its own inherent idiosyncracies, so it doesn't mean anything if one aircraft has more write ups than another, just as long as the minimum equipment list allows for it's inoperability for a particular leg/segment. So all you ever have for information now and in the future is what the company is willing to distribute. So for instance, ENRON, WORLDCOM and ADELPHIA are just examples of trend setting companies that eventually became large investor failures. Unfortunately a real independent investigator will never reach the real truth unless it is pointed out. So as rainman would say, stick with the statistics of who flys the best maintained airplanes, than you won't have to worry about whose the worst outfit to fly today or next week! Happy flying! I agree. I have a sibling that flys for NW and took a 40% pay cut. The family still lives a lifestyle most americans only dream about...$500K home. The contrast of how they live compared with our austere military family upbringing is mind boggling. It should not take a rocket scientist to figure out that something is out of wack when the majority of the airlines are in trouble. Sure the CEOs make too much, but they do in every industry. I am a petroleum geologist and in the 80's 500,000 of us lost our jobs. I took a 50% pay cut and only now have I caught up with my peers on the O&G pay scale. It only took me 20 years and three job/career changes to do it. Came to senses wrote: It is good that pilots came to their senses. They just don't seem to understand how good they have it. In truth.... air crew members make many sacrifices for the opportunity to ply the skys and earn a decent salary. They work holidays, weekends, weekdays, split shifts, split days off, morning, evenings, redeyes, and many times more then often all in the same week. Unlike firefighters, police officers, teachers, and then those working 9-5 they are many times gone from home for the, graduations, weddings, funerals, anniverseries, and other occasions, people who have home based jobs take for granted. People cannot be expected to make these sacrifices for nothing you know, yet so many lay person and Airline Management Types forget about this and think they should work for peanuts.

These scab pretend mechanics are not working out at all. And we get to pick up the tab with our huge pay cuts. The key word here is true mismanagement from the top at Northwest. Its shady deals and lies to employees constantly. Our AMFA mechanics need to be brought back asap to end this huge money drain by useing these scabs.
