Why pay anything for MS Office when you can download OpenOffice for free? It works just as well, doesn't take up as much memory, and you can save documents in Office format if you need to share files with luddites who still rely on Microsoft.

Actually Open Office does not play as nice with all office documents and one does not foprmat into the other without errors. I have found this with the word clone for OpenOffice where I re opened in word and lost all my formatting, and the spreadsheet clone and my formulaes didn't work.

It's not totally compatible.

in regards to bundling with one care, it's crap software. Nobody in thier right minds will use one care becuase it sucks at it's job of finding MalWare. But I can imaging there will be plenty of bottom feeders at Best Buy who will buy this and piss and moan a year later when the subscription is up.

You are right. MS Office and Open Office have compatibility problems.

I am an ex-employee of MS. What I know of Office and the Vista pushes me to distrust OneCare. It is not their technology, anyway. It came from Giant Technologies.

When I bought a brand new Dell Laptop D820 last year (with 4 gigs of ram and 512 mb of video ram), I made the choice to stick with Win XP and Office 2003. My computer has more than enough juice to run Vista and 2007. I just did not want to deal with all the problems of the OS and the apps. I don’t like the ribbon, lack of toolbars, and performance degradations, just to name a few. I have heard that there are some companies that have created software to restore the classic file menus and toolbars. If true, I bet you that they love MS.

This seems to be a terrible- and Microsoft enriching- idea. And I agree with Ben Dejo: who give a what about friggin OneCare? I'm just sitting in my office rolling my eyes at this point.
