Nope is like a dope and he can stick with Hawaiian but it was Hawaiian and Aloha that had a duolopy of interisland travel that were charging absurb prices until Go entered the market and prices were drastically reduced due to an airfare war which benefited not only myself but thousands of interisland travelers. With their smaller planes translating into lower costs, I will continue to patronize Go!Mokulele instead of the surly employees of Hawaiian that gives the impression that better to fly Hawaiian than a mainland carrier. Ridiculous marketing. go!Mokulele.....go!Mokulele..I 'm sure many island sports teams, groups, bands, hula halaus, and frequent interisland travelers are grateful for the existence of a competitor to Hawaiian.

no one has to listen to Nope or satch7 --- how about doing some research on how the Federal Courts have ruled against this organization

and use your own sense of aloha to decide what you think of this organizations attempt to use the name Aloha on their planes

satch7, your clueless underwear are showing again. Those "little cheap" airplanes are parked all over the world because they are actually the most expensive to fly. Where MESA flies them on the mainland they actually charge passengers more than Hawaiian or Aloha ever charged for an inter-island flight. Before you patronize the criminal for saving your ability to travel, you should make sure he shows a profit under the fares he charges, and make him employ local people as pilots, and in other high paying jobs.

I'm really interested to know where you work and why you are so willing to throw those 3500 Aloha employees out with the bath water when it's documented by two federal judges that this guy is nothing more than slime. Perhaps your "hula Halau" local mentality is actually Phoenix born or you are a writer from the Star Bulletin who benefits directly from being his friend.

Based on his criminal history, the State of Hawaii should deny anything MESA needs until he has been removed from the operating certificate.

Then again, it's your right to patronize any crook you wish.

Mesa's official record: 19 dead in 2003, 2 asleep in 2007, 1 CEO guilty of lying before a federal proceeding in both 1992 and 2007.

It's just a matter of time before one of go/mokulele/mesa's airplanes ends up on the bottom of the ocean.

I wont fly go! ever, and you won't catch me on Mesa's filthy mainland system either.

I miss Mokulele already they had the best planes. amazingly patient counter help, less restrictive rules and cheaper. Some of their employees were x-Aloha employees. I must say prior to its demise, Aloha was the best local airline definitely the most user friendly. i really miss Aloha and now i miss Mokulele. Did/do you ever try to talk to an Hawaiian agent on the phone? It's unhawaiian no aloha what so ever. Don't bother you cannot understand what they are saying and my guess is that they are not even in Hawaii. Has many of the telephone jobs been outsourced to a foreign country?

What this article fails to report is that the local flight attendants and pilots at Mokulele will not be working on go! planes. They will be reassigned to Mokulele's parent company's bases on the mainland. So technically, they are fired unless they are willing to move to Chicago, Columbus, New York, etc. Anyway you look at it, there are more unemployed people because of the ruthlessness of Mesa/GO!.

I post this article that was in the Star Bulletin yesterday and I am doing it today. It sais it all.
This editorial today is just a repetition. It is all in this article, for those who bother to read.
Mokulele and go! merger is a good move — for now

I was always a little skeptical about the arrival into the interisland air market of Mokulele Air. Some people were saying that we didn't need more competition in Hawaii. I, of course, disagree. Every market, small or big, needs competition. Competition is good for the consumer.
However, I must say that I had mixed feelings about Mokulele/Republics' entry. The part of me that believes in competition and in consumer choices hoped for Mokulele Air to succeed and prosper. But the other part of me believes that the odds are against one of the weaker competitors and, as a result, one of them will fail. Which one, I didn't know, although analysts seemed to have predicted Mokulele Air.
When I started Discovery Air back in the '90s, the interisland scenario was completely different. Honolulu was the hub for major transpacific airlines and the departure point for interisland air travel. Now most major carriers are flying directly to the other islands from their originating points and, as a result, the interisland connecting traffic has diminished considerably. In addition, this severe economic downturn eroded it even further.
Today, 20 years later, it is a totally different ball game. Until now we had four competitors jostling for a piece of what is left of a fast shrinking air market. At the top there is Hawaiian Airlines, the dominant carrier with huge capacity and frequency advantages. This gives it the ability to match any low fares that the new entrants or existing competitors will come up with and still leave it enough seats to sell at a higher price. Its costs are spread among a bigger fleet, the revenue stream is not solely dependent on interisland traffic and it offers a variety of services and amenities that the smaller competitors cannot offer. Frequent Flyer programs secure it the loyalty of customers.
At the other end we have Island Air, a small airline operating turboprop aircraft. Because its operating costs are much lower than those of the jet operators, if it keeps its niche and flies below the competitors' radar, it should be able to get by.
The airlines' main tool for competition is frequency and capacity. Mokulele and go!, with their small fleet of aircraft, are unable to offer either of them. Hawaiian Air has the lion's share of the transpacific traffic that is fed directly into its interisland service. Mokulele and go! are largely dependent on a small section of the point-to-point local interisland market, not enough to make it a viable business proposition.
As a result, Mokulele and go! were both faced with the classic dilemma: Stay as they are, a no-win option; or increase capacity, offer more frequencies and better amenities with the goal to stimulate traffic and capture some from the other competitors. A very risky proposition in this small, shrinking market. With visitor arrivals in sharp decline, a sluggish economy and costs rising, the odds are stacked against them. This merger, at least for the time being, seems a reasonable, face-saving solution.
The question is, will Mokulele Air keep all its current aircraft in service here in Hawaii or will it take them back and operate them in other markets?
If the latter, would go! then replace the departing aircraft? Otherwise, regardless of what the new entity's name is and who owns what, it will be back to square one. In the end Hawaii will be left with an airline that has a lower seat capacity than the two merging ones, too small and weak to be really competitive, with a very confusing name.
These are the realities of today's interisland air market — but let's hope that air competition will be kept alive and that the consumer will continue to have choices.

I was overjoyed to see Aloha go under, and felt cheated and still short-changed when Hawaiian stuck around.

Having been ripped off by both when they had the market cornered, I swore to do my part to get even.

Hawaiian is as "local" as the Filipinos in third world PI, right now taking their airline reservations.

No give me this kine, "oh, Hawaiian is 'local'" b.s.

Local, not local, service, arrogance, no like haoles---all bogus.

It comes down to the CONSUMER. Up to US who we like fly.

Not up to some disgruntled, ignorant folks who used to work for Aloha.

Not up to the same kind that now populate Hawaiian.

UP TO US.

I only fly Hawaiian if my clients PAY for it or if MY schedule requires it or it is convenient otherwise.

BUT, you can count on the FACT that I REMEMBER when both ripped me off.

Go take your "no fly go!" stuff and cram it up your boop chute.

I'm a loyal Hawaiian Airline flyer and have no plans to fly on any other inter-island airline. I flew one-way on Aloha Airlines a couple of years before they went under in 2008 and I was surprised at the friendly staff at Aloha Airlines at the Hilo Airport. But because of my frequent flyer miles and assigned seating, I made up my mind to continue to fly with Hawaiian Airlines exclusively.

Many posters are upset with Go! Airlines but they fail to consider that before Go! came into the picture, Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines were soaking the inter-island travelers with their high airfares. I've seen it happen once and I can see it happening again. So if Hawaiian Airlines gets its way, they will soak the inter-island travelers with much higher airfares.

If you are a frequent inter-island traveler, you will understand what I am talking about since it does put a damper on your inter-island travel with the high airfares. I'd rather have competition keeping the airfares at around $39 to $69 per inter-island flight than having to pay $109 to $129 per inter-island flight. The lower airfares are better for the Hawaii economy since it allows us outer island residents to travel to Oahu more frequently to visit relatives/friends and stay at the Waikiki hotels and shop at Ala Moana Shopping Center.

So don't blast Go! Airlines and cause more people to stop flying Hawaiian Airline's competitor. In the long run, you will only hurt the inter-island travelers. We need competition to keep fares affordable. Can you imagine if an outer-island family of four had to fly to Oahu for a wedding or a funeral and the inter-island airfare went up to $129 per flight once again?

That is a bunch of cow manure. We have many former Aloha friends at Mokulele. There is no way they'd have applied for jobs at go! but now it seems Mr. Ornstein has changed his mind. We'd heard/read that employees would not be eliminated. "Most jobs will be protected, according to company officials" says the above article. Humm,
seems we've heard from the Mokulele people that Ornstein is laying them off. Here he goes again, turmoil in the local job market. Once again, Mr. Ornstein, go! home to the mainland. You give mainalnd Haole's a bad name. I'm a local haole in case you wondered. No more news on this jerk please.

Right on ' Bad Dog '! I miss them too.

Those Mokulele Jets were great ( Brazillian made with GE engines ). Only 70 seats but very nice.

I liked the way the stewards they gave info in English and Hawaiian too.

What Ornstein and Go did was just plain pilau. Shame on the newspaper for welcoming Go.
