Actually, that's incorrect. There have always been examples where a greater majority than simply the most votes has been required.

One good example was the with the Continental Congress that adopted the Declaration of Independence. It was decided that all thirteen colonies would need to vote for independence before a declaration could be made.

Too bad the U.S. Senate uses parlimentary tricks to make 60 votes necessary for most legislation.

Actually these kind of votes are an effort by the shareholders( owners) of a public company to resume control from the executives ( employees.) Always interesting when the CEO of a public company is it's founder. One could consider this vote a warning to the leadership of Limited Brands to reconsider their focus. Nice to see shareholders acting as they should ( exerting ownership rights)even though the company is making money. The rise of the stock price after the vote should make the leadership of Limited Brands realize there is a problem and take efforts to see what their owners our thinking. Might be a bit difficult for a group who is used to everyone being a "yes man" but then life is all about facing new challenges with aplomb.
