I disagree with the last statement in your article. Recycling plastic bags is part of the solution because it gives us something to do with all of the waste we've already created. Reusable bags are most definitely the way to go because they eliminate the need for plastic bags at all.

The polluting plastic industry is scapegoating paper bags to save its profits. We don't even need bags. See

for a permanent alternative to bags.
Autocarts are collapsible shopping carts that fit in vehicles and eliminate the need for paper or plastic shopping bags altogether. The Autocart is a good rebuttal to the claim that "people will just use more paper bags."

Plastic bags must be phased-out, just as most disposable and 'single-use' products.

This is in line with the three Rs for a better world: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

It is everyone's role to make small steps for a better environment. If laws are needed to change people's behavior, so be it.

Just wait. Ultimately, what they'll end up doing is TAXING you to use plastic bags. The tax will be wrapped in "but plastic bags are bad for the environment," as the money goes into the "General Fund." Hold onto your wallets...
