I've noticed an increase of crime withing the confines of the mall, itself, but haven't really seen or heard of anything else in the area. I usually go over to the Howe Rd. area once a week. Granted, it's during the day, but even the occasional times when I've been in the area in the evening, I think there's just too many people around to make it good for crime.
But, like I said, I don't go there often enough in the evenings, so I may not be able to make a valid judgement.

Evidently you have had good luck living in that area. Either that, or you know the hoods that are committing the crimes and they just leave you alone...
There's a big difference between the Chapel Hill Mall and the Howe Road shopping area. The Howe Rd. shopping area is very nice, excellent landscaping (look around Jarrod's, Chik-fil-a, Olive Garden) and huge traffic that is good for stores. That Best Buy (Cuyahoga Falls) has the most cash flow of any Best Buy in Ohio. The Home Depot was only built to stay there for a number of years and then the company was going to close it (standard plan they use), but because of it's sales compared to other Home Depots the company has kept it open. The Howe Ave. area is nice, safe and should not be confused with Chapel Hill Mall. The Cuyahoga Falls police take care of the Howe Road area very well.

I agree that there is a difference, and that is largely to the north side of Howe Road being in Cuyahoga Falls. However, my original comment was one poking fun at Cuyahoga Falls community development director, Susan Truby, calling the area a "destination spot". That is just plain funny.

It is a destination spot compared to the Falls 'other' shopping center option.

Susan get a clue about the "mix". There are no other stores like Linens and Things in the area. We'll have to drive to Montrose and to Beds, Bath and Beyond.
Did she say there was an exact match? No! She said there was a mix of food and retail.

And much of what was sold at that store can be found in the Chapel Hill area.

Yes, especially since the Chapel Hill area is now a "destination spot"...

To Hater,If Chapel Hill fails it has worse repurcussions than you are aware of my friend. Not only is it a huge red flag that this area is worse off than people are saying but it takes a long time for an area this size to rebound.

You must not be a homeowner or have any investments in the area.

Yeah, but to all those thousands who, over a weeks time, go to all the restaurants or retail stores in the Howe/Home area, isn't it a destination spot?
Unless the definition of 'destination spot' is different than what I'm thinking.
Or are you just being a scamp again, Big L? Hmmm? Is that it, you pistol?

Yep, just being a scamp again. To me, "destination spot" has a far different connotation than "retail area".

Great post. I work for a company that manages and and tracks gift cards, and I've been checking and following the LNT BK on savvywallet.com . Spend your gift cards now, before they close. If there aren't too many stores close by, you may be out of luck!

OK, granted the Chapel Hill area is not Cancun.

But I have heard of Akron being referred to as "the Brussels of the Midwest".

Although that was by people who push shopping carts full of garbage along the sidewalks downtown, but still...

I live in the Chapel Hill/Howe Rd. area and I have to say that yes, in some ways it's becoming a bit depressed (Britain Rd area as you go south - the-once-Chi-Chi's-once-chines e now defunct, the 2-3 furniture stores that went out, etc. etc. etc.), but it's still safer, imo, than MANY areas of the city.

Large malls, though, I think, are feeling the strain of being passe and a lot of people stop going to malls either because they're crowded or there's just nothing there for them to buy. Online shopping, too, has given retailers a major hit - how can one pay their rent on their stores if people are going online to buy?

Chapel Hill is ALWAYS busy (or every single time I'm there it is), so it's not like it's turning into a Rolling Acres, so I think that there's potential. Maybe bringing in new concepts will bring in new blood?

You say Chapel Hill isn't turning into Rolling Acres... yeah right. When Rolling Acres went down hill the "clientele" from there came to Chapel Hill. I used to have no problem with going to Chapel Hill by myself or with girlfriends when I graduated high school 9 years ago. Now I stay far far away and drive to Westfield if I need something from a mall. No way will my child get to hang out at Chapel Hill when he's older like I did as a teen unless they straighten it around or maybe open another mall in the ghetto so Chapel Hill can be nice again.

All the kids hanging out at the mall where there already before the other mall went downhill. People are just making a bigger deal out of it now.

Considering that the hood ornaments hanging out over at Rolling Acres probably don't have reliable transportation and since RA is on the other side of town, I very highly doubt that they came over to Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill is a NICE mall. Try going over there occasionally (or ever).
