Your Point is Valid!
1. The Banks/Wall Street Lobbied very hard to get the restrictions loosened up for Mortgage Home Buyers!
2. The Republican Party Pushed these thru as "Economic Stimulas"! 1999 and even 2000!
3. The FBI in 2004 and 2005 Reported Hugh amounts of Mortage Fraud! G.W. Bush and other Republicans Denied Funds to the FBI, Treasury, SEC, FTA, to Investigate these!
4. Google Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas and read the bills that he pushed thru congress and the Effects they have produced, which we are now in!
5. Yes I believe in "Self Responsibility", I also believe in "Truth in Lending Laws"!
6. Have you ever bought something because you believed the "Sales person" and found that you were "Lied" to?
But you keep ignoring these salient facts (from a liberal rag):

Andrew Cuomo and Fannie and Freddie

How the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history gave birth to the mortgage crisis

By Wayne Barrett
The Village Voice
published: August 05, 2008

There are as many starting points for the mortgage meltdown as there are fears about how far it has yet to go, but one decisive point of departure is the final years of the Clinton administration, when a kid from Queens without any real banking or real-estate experience was the only man in Washington with the power to regulate the giants of home finance, the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC), better known as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Andrew Cuomo, the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history, made a series of decisions between 1997 and 2001 that gave birth to the country's current crisis. He took actions that—in combination with many other factors—helped plunge Fannie and Freddie into the subprime markets without putting in place the means to monitor their increasingly risky investments. He turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a sweetheart lender with sky-high loan ceilings and no money down, and he legalized what a federal judge has branded "kickbacks" to brokers that have fueled the sale of overpriced and unsupportable loans. Three to four million families are now facing foreclosure, and Cuomo is one of the reasons why.

What he did is important—not just because of what it tells us about how we got in this hole, but because of what it says about New York's attorney general, who has been trying for months to don a white hat in the subprime scandal, pursuing cases against banks, appraisers, brokers, rating agencies, and multitrillion-dollar, quasi-public Fannie and Freddie.

You know that it was not just one thing in the "Freddie Fannie" Crisis, there was more Factors involved. There was a man who worked at Fannie and was high up in the position he held. He then quit and went to work at Merrill Lynch, as a VP. This man then took severial hundred million dollars of "Toxic Loans" and convinced his former Employer that they were Good!.

The Fact that the Gramm-Riley Act of 1999 loosened up the Ratio of income to Mortgage Payment! The fact that in 2000 (November) Sen. Gramm pushed thru the "Financial Reform Act" 262 Pages (No One Read) that allowed for Derivatives/Hedge and speculation funds. Which exclusively Spelled out that there be "No regulation No Auditing, by Federal Regulators"! All of them! Brooksley Borne Chrm of the FTC in 1994/95 warned Greenspan that these would create a "Financial Meltdown World Wide"! There has only ben one Man to Apologize to Brooksley Borne! The rest even Greenspan refuse to admitt that they were wrong.

...and you need to learn some HISTORY! Don't expect me to bring you up to speed, I kind enjoy watching you make a fool of yourself. "Osama and his gang", that's hilarious. I can picture him now with his pants down around his knees and a boombox on his shoulder.
WoW- you really need some help. How do you live with yourself treating people the way you do? Do you have a soul? I am certian my education and history knowledge is at par or greater than yours. So, don't worry, I don't need you to bring me "up to speed." You probably watched 9/11 loose change on You Tube and decided 9/11 was a great government conspiracy.

See the problem with all you liberals is you run around acting like you are sooo much better and smarter than everyone else. You tell everyone we need to be more acepting of our fellow man, sing songs, and all get along. The problem with that is you, you liberals tell us to act that way; however, you can't seem to find the sense to be able to do that yourself. Climb off the hypocrite branch, look around, look at yourself. All kidding aside, with the hostilities you have, you really just might need to seek some mental health treatment.

Yes, it must be incredibly rough being big business. Especially in the oil industry where companies like BP make only a paltry $40 billion profit in a single quarter. Or Microsoft, who made something like $16 billion last quarter. Or Walmart, which made however many billions of dollars in profit last quarter. And the list keeps on growing.
While these companies are made up of individuals, the companies DO NOT act in the interest of those individuals. They have no moral compass. If you work for a corporation you are largely disposable to them in this day and age, so their only interest is in providing you with just enough money and benefits that you don't leave. Everything else beyond that is purely about maximizing profit. Corporations doesn't care one bit about what is good for the greater society, except in those few cases where society has clearly forced them to. Hell, most businesses don't even care about what's good for their own long-term business strategy. Many are perfectly happy to sacrifice long-term growth and stability for higher stock prices now.
If you have any doubts about the effects of chasing the almighty dollar at all costs you have to look no further than the international financial meltdown that we're still struggling to get out of. Do you remember why we're in this mess? Because companies that were chasing profit at any cost were giving out loans that they had no chance of ever being fulfilled, then bundling those loans into securities to be resold to unsuspecting companies. They were playing Hot Potato with the worlds financial markets in the hope that when the music stopped playing they wouldn't be left holding the bag, and EVERYBODY got burned because of it.
As to the union argument, that's a tired, old strawman argument if I've ever heard one. According to the AFL-CIO there are about 15.4 million union members in the United States (about 11.5 million directly affiliated with the AFL-CIO). If each of those union members donated $500 a year to their union's political action funds (since partisan political activities can only be paid for from voluntary donations rather than union dues) that's $7.7 billion dollars that unions can direct for political activities. And you and I both know that they're not getting an average of $500 per union member per year in donations.
How does that compare to the spending power of the biggest corporations in the United States? If you look at the top 10 companies on the Fortune 500 list for 2010 they had combined profits last year of just over $100 billion dollars. And that's just the top 10 companies, and just THE PROFITS. It doesn't account for the billions that they are already spending on political activities.
And do you want to know another of their dirty little secrets? The total net profits of the entire Fortune 500 was $330 billion dollars higher in 2009 than it was in 2008 (up 335%). In the middle of the greatest economic disaster in the past 80 years the companies that make up the Fortune 500 experienced the second largest jump in profitability in the 55 year history of the Fortune 500.
So yeah, you just go on drinking that "the unions are outspending us" kool-aid. Anyone with sense can do the math and figure out who is really calling the shots in American politics. And they're not just buying Republicans, they're buying up votes on both sides of the aisle.
Someone who knows better? You cant even do math. The top ten companies made 100 billion but yet you say 2 companies alone without Wally World made 56 billion. What about the other oil companies and Wal Mart? I am sure it is well above 100 billion but of course you did your research because you are a LIB and KNOW Better right. Thats why we are on a sinking ship because of people like you. THANKS

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
