He is a good man. I am sure it is hard to make the other staffers do the right things and he is caught in the middle. I wish we had never lsot him.

Has anyone heard anything about Lebanon Va (IAC) plant closing?

They are having a big layoff. Today the numbers in 001 Cobalt increased making them having to work this Saturday. Visitors were in today from BMW. Several BMW molds are supposingly coming into the plant Jan. One of the guests was suppose to be BMW vice-president. Rumor is the big BMW business is coming in July that is bigger than the 360 program that just closed out. So many rumors floating right now who knows what the truth is. |

How can you be out of your classification if you are short term layoff? You didn't leave your classification for another classification and you are still on the company payroll, there just is no work for you in your position temporarily.
I'm don't actually have your contract language in front of me or anything like that, but from reading what you are saying it doesn't seem proper or am I just looking it in the wrong fashion? |
|
It would come down to the lay off language in your contract, and the time frame outlined in it. Our contract at Sidney has 2 types of layoff in the language, defined (2 weeks or less), and defined (more than 2 weeks). This can be "tweaked" by mutual agreement between the committee and management. When you said "handful of people at a shop meeting" was that a monthly membership meeting, or something that was called at the moment? If it was a regular membership meeting, this should serve as a wake-up call to the members of your local to get out and be heard, and not just sit back and let a few people decide for you all. On the other hand, do you feel that a lot of people are interested in changing job class right now? Do you have any other lateral movement language in your contract that could be used instead of waiting for a bump? Don't know what kind of seniority you have in your plant, but most people usually settle in to a spot and keep it even when there's a chance to move. Maybe it will work out without alot of grief. I wish you luck. |
|
Our entire plant minus about 180 ( the 180 came back on 1/05) or so was laid off between 12\19 and 12\23, return to work date being 1/29/09. This would put us past our 2 week temp layoff by contract, and past the 30 days to keep our jobs. The contract is being followed, but it just is not the right thing for our plant at this time. Jeff I fully agree with your stance on going to the meetings, but our people are not used to being heard like this, if this had happened since the beginning more people would probably go to meetings. As you also stated the company and the union can come to a mutual agreement, the company was against re bidding. |

Judged: 1 1 1 This committee just came in in Nov., and got handed a MASS INDEFINATE LAYOFF!!! Not everone is coming back on the 29th!!!!! This is why we talked about all the possible things that may happen, and what we were looking at and guess what, what they said at the meeting happened!!!!! Give this committee a chance to get their feet wet, and bring some ORDER back to what was screwed up by the last committee...remember the last committee changed a lot of stuff without telling anyone!!! This new committe/chair may be new, not as inexperienced as you say, remember we did vote back 3 from the last committee and 2 new. Plus we voted in a new person as chair!! That tells me maybe we are looking for change and we need to give them all the chance to make change happen. Hell look at the economy, and plants closing around us. Do you think their jobs are going to be easy? Hell I just hope I have a job by the time our contract comes up in NOVEMBER!!!!! Please attend a meeting and stop B****ING about stuff you really have no idea about, it is nothing new WAUSEON HATES CHANGE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU WANT!!!! WE B***H AND DON"T ATTEND METTINGS OR GIVE PEOPLE CHANCES!!! I know because I gave done it, but now I am attending meetings and letting myself be heard!! |

If you're eligible for vacation pay you will get it regardless if you're called back or not.

Judged: 2 1 Our big meeting is tomorrow. I think I'll bring my own Vasoline. Rumor has it they will be pushing for us to redo our contract. Are they afraid that the economy will be better in November when our contract expires? Will all the scared little sheep I work with say "OK, whatever you say" like they did the last time? It's time to stop letting fear rule your lifes and stand up for yourselfs. The war on the middle class will be won by the rich corporations if people don't start to make a stand. |

Hello. Does anyone from the old Carlisle plant still check this out? I pop in here occasionally just to remind myself how lucky we all are not to be working for IAC anymore. One door has closed and another has opened. The road was rough at the beginning but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I will be graduating from my TAA program in December and am ready to hit the work force in the legal field.
I had the opportunity to visit the Albemarle carpet producing plant several months ago during a trip to the Charlotte area. What a joke. It was actually quite amusing to see how bad the place is run compared to the old Lear-Masland Carlisle plant. |

Some of still pop on here now again. I can't find the message board for C&A anyone seem to have it
