Just out of curiosity, any of you guys/gals at the other plants have anybody get in trouble for lockout violations? If there were, what were the circumstances and the disciplinary actions followed?

Any feedback on these questions would really be appreciated as it might be able to help someone out a little bit.

Thanks in advance,
Stuck

we had a girl about a year ago get in trouble for no lockout. a corporate guy actually saw her and wanted her fired, and we argued improper training and inproper work instructions. she ended up with 3 days suspension but i believe we got her paid for 1 or 2 of those days. she was on a carpet cutter and was trying to get some carpet unjammed and stuck her hand inbetween a roller. they felt it should have been locked out even though it would not run without her holding a button. she was never trained to lock out that machine so that is what we argued.

Hey Fremont,

The corporate person should have got a few days off for not stopping a stupid person's actions. We are all responsible for safe operations.

EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW NOT TO STICK YOUR HAND WHERE IT DON'T BELONG.

In Strasburg there is a zero tolerance policy for lock out tag out violations. We were led to believe that this was a company wide policy. Multiple employees have been terminated here for violating this policy.

its the companys responsibility to properly train the employees so whether or not if she's a "winner" you still have to give the person the right tools to work with. not just assume she knows better because an engineer one day earlier was doing the same thing but no one said anything about it until after the fact. so thats y the union stepped in and helped with situation . remember they wanted her fired for no lock out tag out and she was never shown at all or told at all to do that when in a jammed up carpet situation. heck she doesn't even have a lock out tag out those r only given to our maint. dept.

Blame GOD for not giving her COMMON SENSE!!

You sound just like her, an IDIOT!! If someone saw the engineer the previous day, something should have been done. Don't you have a TRAINER, when someone is learning a new machine. If you don't, You should demand one.

Who named you FINEST, some MORON!!

The Company is obligated to train or have someone train their employees properly regardless whether they have common sense or not. If an employee does something wrong as a result of the lack of effort by the Company to do the right thing and train their employees then the Company is accountable for when things go wrong, not the employee.

I started this thread to gather some information from other IACNA plants as to what the standards are by Corporate on 'lockout tagout and safety violations' and as to how the Company and Union has resolved perceived violations. Please help me and others keep this informative and useful to the original question by not going off on tangents with subjects that don't have anything to do with it.

the bottom line is when you have good union representation you will fight to help out a coworker no matter what the situation. in that case lock out was debatable anyways. our saftey coordinater posted saftey instructions that did not include lock out. that woman followed those posted instructions, and did everything she was trained to do by the company. we used that to put fault back on the company and she kept her job. as a commitee we go to bat for our people no matter what the situation.

Accident Waiting to Happen

Give me a break. Blame everyone but the person responsible. You get trained to stick your hands
between rollers. Stephen King would have a lot of HORROR material to write about in your plant.

Lot of people at fault and they all deservr time off!!

As Lear files for bankruptcy...

Seriously, get off it. All I am asking for is a little help, you obviously can't provide any of it as you are not an employee of IAC which means you can't offer anything but lame remarks which aren't helping any.

They have terminated employees in our plant for lock out tag out violations. They even fired the Operations Manager earlier this year for violating the policy.

SHE-Boygan,

Get off your high horse and ask yourself, "self, is this worker a safety conscious person." I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Are you blowing your own horn for getting some stupid worker only days off instead of being fired?!!

IAC SUCKS

IAC SUCKS
You don't know the details of the situation and yes it is a safety conscious person that is having the issue right now. I really am not the one to discuss the details at the moment as it is a pending issue. In this situation, I can say that 'yes, this is a safety conscious person'.

I'll be more than happy to discuss the basics of it when it is done and over with in order to reciprocate the favor that some of the more helpful people in here have done for the person involved that way if something like this occurs again someone else can gather some information on what is a Corporate wide policy and not just a local policy.

And where I gave you the impression I was on a high horse is beyond me as you were the one that was belittling the IAC workers here, you seem to see it a bit differently when the comments are pointed back at your place of employment.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Gemini

It's a red letter day for relationships under the Lunar Eclipse in your house of significant others, because you're facing some important and far-reaching changes to some of them. The pressure has been building since the Gemini Solar Eclipse on May 20. f you've known for some time that things aren't working out, you're about to reach a crisis point as becomes obvious that the present situation can't continue much longer. The coming New Moon in Gemini on June 19 will see progress of one kind or another, though this unusual eclipse cycle will have a far-reaching effect. You may have to be cruel to be kind, or more forceful than you would like, in order to get your point across, but do you really have any viable alternative?
