Squeezed shoppers find it too pricey to stockpile
By Anne D'innocenzio
Associated Press

Kroger has no stores in the Twin Cities area.(Al Behrman, Associated Press)

And the rag investors wonder why fewer people subscribe to the newspaper??!! Pull an article off the wire where the primary store source doesn't exist here??!! Writers/reporters: Get off your backsides, get away from your freakin computers, and join/see/talk with us in the real world down the block and around the corner. Write about how the news affects US and WE might invest in what you write about! It should have been so easy to turn this into local stores and local dollars and how local people are adjusting...

Now, let's see how long it takes for a conservative or liberal to turn this into a political finger pointing post.:)

Agreed, Marko. This would be a much better article if this were written about shoppers locally.

From the article: "I don't stockpile any more," said Lorraine Woodcheke, a publicist from San Francisco, who in January started buying smaller containers of soy milk, olive oil and fresh-cut fruit to control her budget. "I don't have a pantry that is overflowing. I can't justify letting food go bad the way I used to."

Well, then she's finally preventing waste - good for everyone. We are a very wasteful country (as a whole, and yes I'm generalizing). If she really wanted to save some money, she'd buy whole fruit and cut it herself.

I've always bought produce, milk, and fresh meat in small amounts. Throwing away sour milk, rotten produce and meat is just throwing money down the drain.
