We shifted to Giant Eagle from Kroger when Kroger changed their fuel rewards program. It's TERRIBLE. For what we spent on groceries, it used to be at least close (and groceries cost less), but now it's just awful.

I agree with you there. Giant Eagle would not be much of a factor here if not for their Fuel Perks. Someone from Kroger needs to start shopping Giant Eagle regularly. I don't buy much from there (mostly I buy at Meijer), but I seem to get a lot of fuel perks for not much shopping. I rarely go to Kroger anymore.

The problem with Eagle is that their gas has ethanol in it. Neither of my cars can handle ethanol. So their gas stinks. Kroger's recent changes make their program LOUSY...

I like the idea that Kroger raises prices and still has the nerve to sticker it with "new low price".

Agreed the new Kroger fuel jerks program is why we now shop at Giant Eagle, better selection, too.

Kroger needs to lower their prices if they want more business. It would take a great deal to get me to shop regularly there. I can go to Meijer and get lots more for the money. Meijer compares favorably in every aspect except for gas rewards, which are important but not a deal breaker for me. I have a Kroger 6 miles from my home, but I drive 26 miles to Meijer.

This story doesn't make sense when you realize they are closing the Columbus Square Krogers in a few weeks. That's right, folks there will be no grocery stores on 161 east of I-71; an area that once had 4 grocery stores.

That whole area was an awesome shopping experience. You could go there, get all your groceries and whatever else you needed, buy it and then get mugged for everything you bought just outside the doors. That area used to be a decent area back in the 80's and early 90's.Then,it turned ghetto from the ghetto spread that engulfed the Morse Rd area.

I agree about the gas reward program. I also changed because most of the time when I looked for an advertised special item at Kroger, particularly in the meat department, the shelf was empty. It was always "on the the truck".

Giant Eagle is high. I am surprised they are still in business here. I don't care how much they have in gas perks. their high prices seem to offset it.

Kroger gas is a farce

This Kroger gas rewards at Shell stations is a farce. I purchased a $50.00 Shell gas card at Kroger and received 10 cents off a gallon. I filled up using $25.00 of it. The following week, I then purchased another $50.00 card and used the remaining $25.00 from the first card. My discount was 20 cents off a gallon. The following week, I purchased another $50.00 card expecting to get 30 cents off, but all discounts expired. Those discounts expire faster than the milk you buy.

I was a loyal paying customer to a certain fuel rewards program. Not too long ago I obtained a Honda Civic but was disappointed in the gas mileage. The previous owner asked me how much I was getting and I told her 20 mpg. She asked me where I purchased my gasoline, and told me not to do it anymore. Cheaper gasoline via discounts = cheaper quality. Did I really think the store was giving away premium gasoline when you could fill up a tank with a buck off per gallon? Got down to empty, filled tank at different location not associated with any discount program. At the 6 gallon mark, I am at 182 miles. Much better!

Giamt eagle & Kroger are both high. Just go in for their specials. Go to Aldis' & Meijers for some of my shopping. Not into fuel perk, because the gas is already higher than the discounters such as swifty & UDF. Never go to Walmart because their merchandise sucks and groceries too high. Shop around and know your prices. You will save a bundle if you are informed. watch the weekly grocery ads.

I now do a lot of my shopping at Carnival Foods. I use to do a lot at Kroger when I could get $.50 off per gallon on 4 gallons. Now I do not worry. I do some at Wal Mart. Just buy what is on sale on any given week. I love the Kroger in Hebron Ohio because of the people who work there. If Kroger would cut prices and bring back the old fuel reward program that could bring me back
