Rene Doffing's defense lawyer, Paul Engh, said Thursday that Doffing will release a statement Monday declaring "...with a clear conscience that he has done nothing wrong" which is essentially the same statement released in 2008 by another Engh client---Tom Petters. How did that criminal case work out for you, Paulie?

Have to wonder if Doffing is completely comfortable entrusting the court's judgement and his law enforcement career to Engh, whose brilliant legal strategy and tactics helped prosecutors secure the convictions of Ponzie scheme fraud king Petters and wife killer Gordon Weaver.

No worries, of course, if the charges against Doffing aren't true.

He has the corkscrew IN the eating establishment. It's not in the parking lot, not off the premises. How is that theft?
There are then charges pressed against this man BEFORE he has any chance to give his explaination? Wow! I thought in THIS country one is supposed to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Hmmm. What WAS that union meeting about?

And so, with your vast knowledge and experience in criminal defense strategy, you recommend Officer Doffing plead guilty to an at-best flimsy misdemeanor charge for theft of a used corkscrew - a plea that could result in several weeks in jail and ultimately cost him his career?

Just a wild guess: You've got a beef with Paul Engh.

Doffing reached into his pocket, pulled out the corkscrew and said, "Yeah I've got it, it's right here, they said I could have it," the charges stated.
Sounds to me as if he appropriated it, then declared his intent to remove it from the premises. If it had been cash, would it be seen as a clearly criminal act?

Short sweet and to the point. The act was to take the item of value, the intent was to permanently deprive the owner of it and the offer of guilt was that the item had been "given" to the alleged thief.

the question that has to be asked here is, who will lie the most to save this man's job, the cop who tried to take the corkscrew, or the lawyer hired to defend him, also how long before the arresting officer gets disciplined for "not recognizing" a fellow cop, this is why shoplifters are allowed to walk out of the store before being stopped, this man will still have his job, and no charges will be brought, however I don't think he will be going back to the restaurant anytime soon for supper

The Da will lie the most. It protects the devine king in the black dress. Only this time he will lie to protect the brotherhood.(defendant) The lawyers are the best liars. They have years in lairs classes. Cops only have a few credits in lairs class. Remember they look and talk more honest than most. Just do not watch their actions. Do as I say not as I do. I`m above the laws.

Hey LOL-I am surprised you are smart enough to use a computer after falling out of the apple tree!! You are just the Bad Apple that fell landing on your head and your brain turned to sauce. Your posts regarding your support for those who protect us are always so lame. When you look in the mirror, is "idiot" tattooed on your forehead? Now, Javier makes common sense in his views and his post is worth reading. There are always bad apples (like you!) that rot, spoil and ruin the good. But the good always succeed. Ever tried taking the higher ground. Just curious, If a police officer came to your door...what would you do???

The system does not and could not allow it. It would expose the ruse. An honest cop would be dead in minutes. Wake up this is not hollywood or Kansas. This is America where more peopel are now political prisoners than all the other countries combined. If you support a cop you do not support democracy. Liberty and justice for all. You obviously have some violent bad so called friends. How many children have they ruined for personal gain. Thats no friend unless you have a closet full too. How many children have they held down? the unstable ones wear vest.
Whatever. You didn't answer my question...what would you do?? Glad Wisc has to pay for another lossed soul.

In 1979 the mafia extorted people. It was the most violent crime in America. It was called organized crime. Then the mafia was disolved and the just us system took up as the US mafia. So the murderous ways go on. Remember extortion is the most violent crime in America. Not allowed in any civilized world. Even if the name is changed to plea bargaining. It is still extortion in every sense of the word. It has millions of honest people in American jails and prisons. When your all about the money justice always takes a back seat. When you are the law. Absolute power always corupts.
I think you're late for work at the nut factory...All you speak is garbage and do not make any sense...Not sure how the Mafia ties in or liberty and justice for all. Eagan police is charging him and who cares anyways its a 10 dollar cork screw. BFD. Save your propaganda for you kids, they wont know the difference.

I dislike former NYC mayor Gulianni, but agree with his message to the police force. That was-' I will back you 100%, but you also get held to a higher standard. If you screw up, I will go after you twice as hard as the average citizen.' Being a cop is a tough job, and we need to have full confidence them for the police to be most effective. Guys like this knucklehead undermine that confidence, AND- I think it points to an 'above-the-law' mental attitude that is dangerous for a cop to possess. Need to weed jokers like this off the force.

Who knows why he tried to steal the corkscrew but my guess is that the chief is going to try and use this incident to try and get this cop off his police force.

Instead of saying they told him he could have the corkscrew, which can be verified, he should have said he was playing a 'trick' on the bartender and that would remove the intent to steal since he had not yet left the premisis with the item.

I posted this earlier on another story about this guy, but it bears repeating, just because the whole thing makes no sense to me why he would be doing such a foolish act. Even if it was a special corkscrew.

"$10 bucks for a corkscrew? I don't think so. Most wait staff and bartenders use what is called a waiter's corkscrew, about 4" long and thin enough to either keep in a pocket or in an apron pocket. They are a dime a dozen and wholesale wine & liquor sales rep's give them away to accounts they do business with. They get them from the various wineries they represent."
I speak from first hand knowledge.

"The investigation was biased and unfair," he added. "Officer Doffing was denied the right to explain his innocence to the authorities.

He was NOT denied the right to explain anything to the authorities. His explanation consisted of...

"Doffing reached into his pocket, pulled out the corkscrew and said, "Yeah I've got it, it's right here, they said I could have it," the charges stated."

Some interesting new details that weren't in the previous article. I don't think this guy should loose his job or pension, but his behavior reveals a distinct lack of character which has probably impaired him his whole life. That will be clear to those around him and he will given less respect than his peers from here foward.

I kind of wish I hadn't made some of the remarks I made to the previous article. If the cheif's plan is not to get rid of this guy, then it should have been handled in house. Maybe the cheif just figured let the chips fall where they may.

I would think this guy would be too embarassed to pursue any claim of innocence. There's that pesky lack of character thing again.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Sagittarius

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
